UPDATE 8 Nov: We know it has been a long time since we posted here but, the Artificers have been very busy, deep inside the Character Sheet Machine. Without further ado we would like to announce; weight changes when unequipping a container and magical containers that have fixed weights. So now you can load down your Cart full of Fine Clothes, drop that heavy Backpack right before a battle and fill up your Bags of Holding.
UPDATE 6 Aug 00:02GMT: We have recovered all customizations created prior to the containers deployment @15:00 GMT today. Any changes made to those items after the deployment have been reverted to their original status. Any alterations made after the deployment are currently unavailable. We will be working on getting those few back over the next couple of days. Stay tuned and thank you again for your patience.
UPDATE 5 Aug 23:01GMT: We know there is an issue with the customization of items, We are currently working on recovering those customizations. We recommend NOT attempting to correct these issues on your end by deleting and rewriting. Give us a moment to recover your old data. Thank you for your patience.
Greetings Adventurers!
We are so happy to announce that the containers on your character’s inventory now actually HOLD things. You can now add things to your backpack and collapse the list. You can click on the container name to see it's contents and add or remove things. When has organization ever been so fun? So as you all log in to your character for the first time today you will see this functionality.
Please remember this is the first step for us to build out the Shared Inventory for your party and we will eventually be adding currency and weight to each or these containers, meaning you can finally carry an overloaded rucksack and drop it right before combat or have a Bag of Holding’s contents not destroy your weight limit. Oh! And one more thing containers cannot go into containers.
If you have feedback, we want to hear it! The best way to give it to us is through our Inventory Management/Sharing Portal.
Hey! I absolutely love this <3 Can you guys please allow us to move CUSTOMIZED ITEMS (i.e. items we make ourselves) to the backpacks? Thank you so much!!! <3
This is a cool feature but it kinda just feels like insult to injury after all UA content was removed from the site for good.
I love this so much. I squealed so much when I saw it in my character sheet. One minor tweak I'd love to see is the ability to add "other items" etc to each container without having to create custom items for each one. I currently have to note where they are stored on the other posessions, but I'd love to see it by container.
@Patrick
Not sure if your sharing portal displays my email address globally - if so please remove it as there was no way to choose not to display that.
Only thing that bothers me... is the containers I was hoping would take the place of ''Other Possessions" and keep the equipment tab at the top. Or maybe make the containers Drag and Drop on the webpage even?
"Other possessions" is fine as it is, for random trinkets that doesn't need full equipment tracking but nice to jot down (or, for example, keep some notes on otherwise nondescript equipment; i.e. if you have 10 maps in your inventory, you can keep a list of what cities/areas you have a map of). But pinning the "Not in any containers" to top or bottom should have been a default, or at least an option. And no, "renaming with special characters to force sorting" is not a solution, it's a forced workaround that does not solve the problem.
Super cool, so pumped that this is a thing now! Would there be a way to make carts vehicles instead of adding 200lbs in your inventory? and could there be a way to make mounts and vehicles from the "extra" tab containers as well?
How do you collapse the containers?
There is a "Hide contents" link on the right below each container; that collapses the container (and turns into a "Show content" link to expand it later).
Unfortunately it's not persistent, so you'll have to collapse it again the next time you reload the page - or even if you switch to a different tab in that section!
Estaln, your email is not being displayed globally, only our team sees it so we can reach back out if we have any questions.
Cheers, pat
Would be useful if the lists gave an indication of the capacity they are holding, I have saddlebags (which my character is not holding himself, rather his mount is) and so I just worked out the capacity it is holding, added this to the notes section of the saddlebags, and I will need to update this continually. But if this was something that was indicated in the heading of each category (Saddlebags, backpack, quiver, etc) then it would make this function even more useful.
Great update though, I enjoy organization and this certainly helps keep tabs on what items are where, incase my DM decides my backpack was stolen or something.
Currently when switching to the Inventory tab, all containers are displayed as expanded, even if they were previously collapsed. Any chance this could be changed so the tab remembers which containers were collapsed? Or that we could re-order the containers?
@Padraigthebard ... Excellent. Thanks for the follow up.
When you look at containers in containers - please look at "carried by" options. For example I would like my saddle, bridle and saddlebags to be carried by my horse.
Effectively this makes the horse a container as it holds the other items.
You can still create a custom item under Equipment. But they can't be moved into containers for some reason... Dndbeyond, please fix this!
Not sure if it was something that would be fixed with the shared inventory, but vehicle containers are adding their weight to the characters encumbrance.
Great feature, tnx
Can’t move items using the “move” button. Also can’t add items it different containers from manage inventory. What am I doing wrong?
Pretty silent on this now, which I noticed is a tendency here on DNDB. Are you going to be working on allowing custom items into containers or not? Been 12 days since the last update of DNDB and now another Pre-Order is up without fixing existing issues. AGAIN.
Not sure which "new" preorder you mean - if you refer to The Wild Beyond the Witchlight article, that just been bumped up from 4 August. Also release dates for source books is up to Wizards really, and DDB have to follow the set deadlines - of course they try to raise some money ahead to cover the costs of converting the rules - and if the Wizards team decides to mess stuff up like with Tasha's again, that also means reworking existing stuff to be able to handle unexpected changes.
And yeah, that's the tendency, but that's not the developers' fault - in fact, as a developer, I prefer not to communicate with the clients, cause then I wouldn't have any time to do actual work; I let the project managers and other people do the talking instead. But seeing how many people on the customer front has left recently, and how they decided to stop supporting UA (which I decision I wholeheartedly support as those articles were always needed a good fixing from the writing side) I presume they are quite low on developer capacity as well. So I suggest patience toward the development itself.
That being said... I would really like to see a quick summary of what is currently being worked on and what are the next 2-3 highest priority features and fixes to be looked at. Like, the light theme for the mobile app that have been missing since the beta and was always promised to "let the team know about it" and that makes me unable to use the app, is it more towards the top or the bottom of the priority list?
