We are excited to announce that D&D Beyond will soon be joining Hasbro as part of the Wizards of the Coast family!
On May 18, 2022 or soon after, your D&D Beyond account will transfer to Wizards of the Coast, at which point (and going forward) the Wizards Terms of Use will apply to your use of D&D Beyond, and the Wizards Privacy Policy will apply to the personal data associated with your account. If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, Wizards of the Coast LLC will become the “data controller” of your personal data once it transfers.
For more information on this transaction, please click here. If you wish to delete your account prior to the transfer, you will find instructions for doing so here.
Frequently asked questions
When will the D&D Beyond Terms of Service be updated?
The Terms of Service will be updated to Wizards of the Coast Terms of Service on or around May 18, 2022.
Why are they being updated?
As part of Wizards of the Coast acquiring D&D Beyond, we will extend the Wizards Terms of Service to cover this new service.
What is changing in them?
We need your permission to put your user content on D&D Beyond and operate the D&D Beyond service, and we’re working to ensure that the scope of the permission you give us is tailored to that goal. The Wizards Terms of Service will therefore be updated with a section specific to D&D Beyond to allow us to host your content and otherwise operate the D&D Beyond service.
Will Wizards own my homebrew content created on D&D Beyond?
Wizards has no intent of taking ownership over user content you put on D&D Beyond, and the Terms of Service will not grant us such rights. The permissions we will need for user content will relate to allowing us to operate the D&D Beyond service, including displaying that content on our site.
Do these changes affect homebrew content that was created before May 18?
Any content that remains on the D&D Beyond service will be subject to the updated Wizards Terms of Service. The updated Terms of Service should not impact how you've used the site or owned your content prior to May 18.
If I delete my D&D Beyond account, will my homebrew content remain on D&D Beyond? If so, will my username still be credited?
While your homebrew content will remain on D&D Beyond, the credited username will change to “user-[number].”
Will Wizards own any character or account information I upload (e.g. character sheets, profile pictures)?
Wizards has no intent of taking ownership over user content you put on D&D Beyond, and the Terms of Service will not grant us such rights. The permissions we will need for that content will relate to allowing us to operate the D&D Beyond service, including displaying that content on our site.
Will I need a Wizards account to access or sign up for D&D Beyond after May 18?
No. You can continue to use your Twitch or Google account or Apple ID to sign into D&D Beyond. New users will still need a Twitch or Google account or Apple ID to sign up for D&D Beyond after May 18.
Will they be releasing books with digital code attached now?
There have been no announcements about free books.
If I’ve purchased anything on DNDB will I still have access to it on WotC? Also- will my characters be transferred too or will they be lost?
I was going to buy some Races but I don’t know if I’ll have access to them or not if I do once it happens.
you will CherryRabbu it's just a change of owner ship but buying books my be different tho
thankyou! ^^ I ended up seeing the original post about it after posting my comment hahaha
I just paid for the big bundle and a whole year of beyond. About half a year ago. I don't have a wizard of the coast account. How will this effect me? Do I have to pay again for the rest the year? Do I get money back or do I just make a wizard account. Then pay at the end of my year? I know it says my account will be transferred over. I just wanna make sure everything gunna be fine. Thank you for your time with us.
Will there be some way for players to redeem codes from previously owned sourcebooks and adventure books by WOTC to then get the online Beyond versions? Currently there isnt unless its the starter packs but i own physical copies of Sword Coast Guide and Monster Manual and dont want to fork over another 60 euro to have the digital benefits
It affects everyone, but all that is happening is a change of the terms of service, as detailed above. There are no plans to end support for D&D Beyond.
There have been no announcements about free books.
when one company buys another they purchase all contracts as well. that means all obligations Fandom has to its customers carry over to the new owner. our purchases will be safe.
It would be suicide if WotC tried to make us all buy the content again. and coments like this are jsut fear mongering.
Will the Beyond20 Chrome Extension still function ?
Will my D&D Beyond still be able to link with my discord?
Yes
This is not fully true the fandom wiki may go down but Dnd beyond will stay it's just new owner ship, and you'll keep all your books forever
Nemimway, I said "Curious to find out" - and placed serval examples of their underwriting.
Just pointing out facts.
Like this little fact from Harvard studies: Mergers and Acquisitions: On average, roughly 30% of employees are deemed redundant after a merger or acquisition in the same industry.
To all the moderators: tick tock...tick tock...
That is a third party extension and has never been supported neither by D&D Beyond nor Roll20. You'll have to contact the dev of that to ask them what they plan to do.
Moderators are all volunteers, and these are separate industries, unless you believe that Wizards of the Coast has a product like D&D Beyond already.
awesomeness will all my characters be available from day one of the transfer? And will more content be available from launch
There may be some temporary downtime the day of the transfer as announced. Other than that the only change announced is this one on the terms of service.
I’d like to know on pre purchases I’m assuming those will be full filled by WoTC and the DnD Beyond department there? Basically there shouldn’t be any major changes or disruptions on the website or on profiles, access to the digital content we’ve purchased and the perks associated with them discounts etc? (Like to hear this from DnD beyond staff and not some alarmist rando)
There are no plans to stop supporting D&D Beyond. The change announced in this article is entirely about the change of terms of service and data controller. It's entirely a legal thing.
