Hello everyone, and welcome back to D&D Beyond Drops!
We’ve got a ton of fun things for you to play with as part of the June drop, including some never-before-seen angelic antagonists, spells to defend and destroy, and useful magic items!
For Players
We’re giving you more fun tools to play with! This month, we’re adding 3 new spells and 3 new magic items.
Spells:
Searing Orb. This is a level 2 spell available to Clerics and Paladins. You’re able to throw a pulsing orb of energy at one enemy before engulfing nearby foes in a flash of light.
Tortoise Shell. This is a level 2 spell available to Artificers, Druids, and Rangers. This spell bolsters your defenses – provided you don’t move.
Void Star. This is a level 7 spell available to Warlocks and Wizards. You hurl a fragment of a dark star at an enemy that deals damage when you first hit and some extra damage at the end of its next turn.
Magic Items:
Amulet of Retributive Healing. This is a Rare Wondrous Item with 3 charges. If you heal someone, you can expend a charge to heal for the same amount of HP.
Eternal Chalk. This is a Common Wondrous Item. Chalk that never breaks or wears down, and it writes in any color of your choice, leaving marks that only you can erase.
Salubrious Armor. This is Rare Armor (that can come in the form of Plate Armor or Scale Mail). This armor gives you a brief bonus to AC whenever you’re healed.
And we’re also including 4 character sheet portrait frames inspired by D&D's most iconic creatures!
For DMs

We’re celebrating the early access release of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within with 4 new angelic stat blocks! Unfortunately for your players, they’re not the type of angels you’d expect. These are Celestial Horrors:

Angel of Death (CR 14). Also known as carperi, angels of death collect souls of important or problematic mortals. They’re sent by their divine masters to make sure that the soul isn’t lost or intercepted. Artist Credit: Irina Nordsol.
Angel of Obsession (CR 6). Also known as khulexi, angels of obsession are guardian angels warped by their own vigilance to become obsessed with their wards. Artist Credit: Irina Nordsol.
Angel of Slaughter (CR 25). Also known as myrmeriks, angels of slaughter serve divine beings who wish to unleash their wrath on transgressors against their holy or unholy wills. Artist Credit: Alejandro Pacheco.
Angel of Vengeance (CR 9). Also known as umulti, angels of vengeance are former planetars who’ve been corrupted by the evil acts they’ve performed in service to good causes. Artist Credit: Alejandro Pacheco.
5 New Horror Maps. We’ve also included 5 maps within the Maps VTT that similarly feel at home in a horror/Ravenloft-type game. Here are their names and locations within Maps VTT:
- Dungeons > Stronghold > Temple Complex of Blood
- Interiors > Academic > Library in the Shadowfell
- Interiors > Religious > Temple in the Shadowfell
- Urban > Gravesite > Graveyard and Tomb
- Wilderness > Ruins > Ruins of Draconic Bone
And remember: the weekly Drop-In Encounters quickplay maps continue as well.
Behind the Screen: Horrific Angels

You might be wondering: when it comes to Ravenloft and horror, how did we land on angels?
While angels have had many interpretations throughout history, we decided to explore the more terrifying aspects of celestial beings: Where you have undeniably powerful entities wielding divine fury, ready (and willing) to smite the wicked (or their interpretations of the wicked).
When we decided to explore their seemingly incomprehensible nature, it felt naturally compatible with what you would see in Ravenloft (or any horror campaign) without being beholden to it. You certainly don’t need to be in a Ravenloft/horror campaign to have a divine entity (that your party got on the wrong side of) send an Angel of Slaughter after you for revenge!
As Brian said last month—DDB Drops gives us the opportunity to offer content that can help explore the themes from our books from a different angle. Celestials aren’t traditionally found in Ravenloft, but the ones we’ve included should feel right at home there and can just as easily be included in your home games.
See You Next Time
Whether you're a player looking to shake up your strategy with new spells and gear, or a DM ready to unleash something truly terrifying on your table, the June Drop has something for everyone. Be sure to let us know how you end up using the content we've released this month, along with what you'd like to see in future Drops!
We'll see you in the next Drop. Until then—watch the skies. Not all angels are on your side.
By the way... what's going on with the elemental planes?

Posted Jun 5, 2026From the previous update post a couple of days ago:
"We made the business decision to not make Drops content eligible for Master Tier content sharing. It’s clear that was not the right decision and we need to find a way to give Master Tier subscribers the ability to content share Drops. We have been taking another look and expect to have an update on the feasibility of content sharing in the next few weeks."
For anyone asking about sharing with their players. Looking forward to seeing what's decided!!

Posted Jun 5, 2026Personal opinion here, the spells and wondrous items are very mediocre. Except the chalk, that's good.
The Searing Orb should be a level 1 spell and 120 range. If it has to stay at level 2, then it needs to do 3d6 and have 120ft range and even then that will make it only ok.
The Tortoise Shell spell should be a level 1 spell and no concentration. If it had to stay at level 2 then still remove concentration and add advantage to some saving throws/immunity to being forcibly moved.
The Void Star spell is just soooo bad at level 7, Warlocks can't even cast 7th level spells, they cap at level 5. The damage is ok, the healing effect isn't even a guarantee because of the way it's written. The way the spell is written, only the 3d12 Necrotic damage dealt at the end of the following turn will provide the healing. So if the initial 6d12 kills the target or the target dies at any point in time before the next turn or if the target gains a way to negate the necrotic damage then the healing is useless. In addition, you only have 1 level 7 slot and it's competing with Prismatic Spray, Finger of Death, Delayed Blast Fireball, Reverse Gravity, Plane Shift, Teleport, etc. Steel Wind Strike is a 5th level spell with similar damage and a secondary ability.
The only gripe I have with the amulet is that is the name. And it could be written better, like specifying what type of action is taken in order to expend a charge. I can see the argument from a rules lawyer that it's a Utilize or Magic Action to activate the item and then how would you cast a healing spell, except Healing Word or a class ability.
And Salubrious Armor is objectively worse in every way than other options. Attunement, Rare so very expensive to purchase, and the +1 to AC is only for 1 turn and only when healed.
DMG lists rare at 4000-39,999 gp in value. Plate +1 is also Rare, listed as 5500gp in value and the +1 to AC is ALWAYS active with NO attunement required. Change the Salubrious Armor to +1 all the time with an additional +1 when healed and then it becomes ok, still not great.

Posted Jun 5, 2026With the announced allowance of these drops eventually becoming sharable by DMs to players once you've cleaned up the backend and the notion that they'll be alacart or bulk purchasable down the line, I withdraw half of my current reason to not spend money on WotC or this platform. Now I just gotta wait out the outcome of the Magic Arena employee Unionization. I continue to badmouth company leadership for seeking filthy disgusting Union Busting lawfirm Fisher Phillips. I will forever swing freely and with commando stealth making jokes of an uncouth and vulgar nature about Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks. I again state my money is contingent on the success of UWotC-CWA, with support of them absolute and encouragement and support of other departments including D&D and D&D Beyond to Unionize. You have nothing to lose but the chains of Avernus itself. Spit in the eye of those who have positioned themselves most high and take back what's your's!

Posted Jun 5, 2026I would like to see you do with Drops what you did in the online Dragon+ Magazine issue #36, "The Fathomless" set. It was a short cohesive set with narative, a handful of magic items, and some characters that could be used as either NPCs or monsters, and of course a new mount / monster (Deep Rothe).
Same with the "Negative Plane" story in Dragon+ #37: short setting description, a couple monsters & NPCs.
In fact, it'd be great if you brought several of the Dragon+ monsters into 5.5 via drops. Well, except maybe Shaggy the Groovy God. :p

Posted Jun 5, 2026More monsters would be awesome to see in further drops!! There's many old oddities I'd LOVE to see get a 5 5.5e take, like the wingless wonder, or the spellweavers! Loving the drops so far!!

Posted Jun 5, 2026Sorry, may be a dumb question. I am a Master tier subscriber. I see a lot of stuff on the drops list that I cant click on. Am I doing something wrong? Example Elemental Incursion, says its an encounter. Is that like a one shot adventure.. How do I access it?
(edit) D'oh as soon as I asked I found it in maps. So let me change this to a suggestion. I play irl not online. Would be great to have any adventures like this to print and take to the table. Love DND Beyond, super helpful for prep and characters sheets and info
