Posted Aug 4, 2026So 60+ spells, 11 races, 9 subclasses, new monsters and rules for boss style combat and magic item, all of this is for use in any generic dnd setting. Yes there is a lot of setting information in the book but there is a substantial amount of material that is applicable for most settings.

Posted Aug 5, 2026Be careful though. In D&D you don't need to initiate a dual to kill other players!

Posted Aug 5, 2026To add to your point, while these expansions are aimed toward players or enjoyers of WoW, ALL 3rd party expansions are built to work with the standard D&D ruleset and be used in any campaign. I understand if you want to pass on this expansion because you aren't a fan of WoW but you can always recreate any subclass from 3rd party stuff with homebrew and share it for free with your party. Alternatively, if it's that important to you, you can get the cheapest version of the expansion and ignore everything except the stuff you want.

Posted Aug 5, 2026That's completely fair, and I agree that that's something I could totally do. But my bone to pick is that WotC is tearing apart the books focused on explicitly DnD, and moving on to making more money. It hurts my heart when I see the game I love being increasingly monetized and sold off to other corporations to make a tidy profit. Subscriptions were bad enough. This feels to me like a betrayal of the creativity of DnD, and so I'm not going to buy it. Others can do so. I'm posting my thoughts on here so that other people can see them and make their own decisions.

Posted Aug 5, 2026I can also see your point of view. I'm excited for Arcana Unleashed and stuff but I would love to see more fleshed out modules and stuff too. I'm currently running a homebrew campaign now and my fiance wants me to find a campaign that starts at level 5 so she can continue this character but there really aren't many that start at level 5. So I'm going to continue the plot that comes after Icespire Peak and just come up with some random stuff they can do to level up till the official module starts at level 7 for Storm Lord's Wrath.

Posted Aug 6, 2026So by utilizing a preexisting franchise they are hoping to make more money, that is completely true. Dnd was releasing 1-2 products per year during 5th ed maybe a 3rd when they were creating adventures. This year they are looking at 6 including adventure, the only way they can do that is by getting a larger player base, by exploring other options. If they didn't release a WoW book I doubt, there would have been a third season this year. It is as much of a betrayal as Eberron was when they created a contest for people to make a setting for them that they could sell. It is as much of a betrayal as every edition of Ravenloft and Dragonlance were since they were just an adventure they capitalized to make more money. It takes years to make a detailed setting which is not something DnD will do since it is a gamble on whether people will like it. If you can use a preexisting media, a popular book series, moves, ect then it is foolish to not try to capitalize on that.
WoW might as well have been a DnD setting the same goes with most fantasy ip created in the last 30-40 years. The fact that it seems that if they had slapped the name of Forgotten Realms, or Grayhawk on the book but kept all of the same content you would have bought it with no problem.

Posted Aug 6, 2026WoW warlock and D&D warlock are honestly very different. Mostly with how their power is obtained. WoW warlock is more focused on subjugating demons, using fel magic and fueling their power with souls. D&D warlock is more focused around having a higher power, kind of like a cleric just darker. There currently are not many mechanics that are in sourcebooks that recreate that "I command the power of demons" feel. As far as I am aware, there is no D&D options for a warlock with this kind of ability.
