Wizards August Summer Break and D&D Beyond

Good for you all. I think most cultures don't value rest as much as we should.

Our subscription fee should get a vacation this week too, then.

I've noticed that everyone gets weeks off at the same time and honestly it's quite refreshing to see. Burnout is no joke and you'll definitely need a rest after Gen Con. Enjoy it while you can.

Just because the staff is getting a well-deserved vacation doesn’t mean the site is shutting down. Nor does it mean things like server fees magically vanish. You’re still getting the primary services you pay for, so of course you should still have to pay.

Speaking for myself, I’m super pleased with the level of communication and general promise for the future of the site.  Hope the team enjoys their time off!

I imagine that no one in these comments or elsewhere lauding WotC for this PR stunt works anywhere where there is an expectation of having your vacation time dictated to you, or being told that you need to crunch beforehand to make up for being away.

(Also take note of everything stated in the post: everyone is still expected to get all of the work they would do during this "break" done so they can double-up on releases the following week. There will be no changelog released, but detailing changes and fixes is peanuts compared to the actual technical work on the site's backend. So if anything, WotC is pushing staff to work extra hard, not less, and just pretend they're on a "break".)

 Do you have any proof beyond nitpicking the wording of the post?

The comment you're responding to here really has a fixation on their subscription (that they totally have, #trust).

But yeah, the limited number of staff on this site working year round can take a week off without the world bursting in flames I think.

 You have no ideas if they are being forced to use their PTO for this week break or if this break is calculated into their pay in general.

So many companies around the globe do similar things like take months off "forcing" their workers to be "forced" into a break.

It’s four days and the sub is $8.99, that breaks down to $1.19 for their vacation. Brother if you’re stressing about a dollar you got more problems than their four day weekend. 

Nope, just the principle of the thing.  The world is full of enabled slackers.

Hello friend. You appear to have quite the negative outlook. Vacation definitely does not mean slacking or enabling it. Given the frequency of negative comments you seem to make with minimal flexibility in your mindset, I hope you are doing alright. Everyone (including you) deserves time to unwind. This kind of transparency with the community is amazing and something I wish more companies would do.
