Dark Sun: Return to a Dying World
Viewer discretion is advised. This trailer contains violent content some may find offensive or disturbing.
Dark Sun—one of D&D's most iconically brutal settings—is back as D&D fifth edition’s first mature-rated setting.
The dying world of Athas is a horrid place where survival itself is an act of defiance. Magic defiles the land, psionic creatures prowl the wastes, and tyrannical sorcerer-kings rule through power and fear.
The Season of Survival
The Season of Survival will pit your party against the full brutality of Athas in two books: the Dark Sun: Blood and Power gameplay expansion and the Dark Sun: Edge of Oblivion adventure expansion.
These two books will release in English first, with French, Italian, German, and Spanish language releases planned for later in 2027.
You’ll also be able to fully immerse your table in the horrors of Athas with the Dark Sun Map Pack, the Dark Sun Dungeon Master's Screen, and a limited-edition Player's Handbook featuring alternate Dark Sun art.
Universes Beyond: D&D Meets Your Favorite Worlds
The multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons is filled with limitless possibilities—but it is not the only setting where adventure awaits.
D&D fifth edition has gone to the worlds of Stranger Things, Magic: The Gathering, Minecraft, and even Rick and Morty. But now, hand-picked collaborations with incredible franchises will bring even more extraordinary worlds to your table!
We are calling this initiative D&D Universes Beyond. Read on to learn more about the legendary adventures waiting to be discovered.
The Season of Champions—D&D: World of Warcraft
Roll for Azeroth!
In November 2026, the Season of Champions introduces D&D: World of Warcraft®, a crossover developed in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment that brings the MMO from your desktop to your tabletop!
D&D: World of Warcraft® is built by designers who love and care about both games, and worked hard to expertly interweave what makes Azeroth such a legendary setting into the heart of the D&D ruleset.
The full gameplay expansion will feature:
- 13 World of Warcraft® classes: New rules for playing all 13 World of Warcraft® classes, featuring 9 new and reimagined subclasses and over 40 specializations.
- 16 species: Including the new Dracthyr, Draenei, Earthen, Forsaken, Haranir, Mechagnome, Pandaren, Tauren, Troll, Vulpera, and Worgen.
- 60+ new spells and 25+ new magic items, including mounts and companion creatures.
- 50+ new monsters and 30 dungeon boss Stat Blocks, built for tabletop peaks.
- 7 iconic World of Warcraft dungeons reimagined for tabletop play, with boss encounters worthy of the legends.
- 20+ factions with renown rewards for forging your legacy across Azeroth.
D&D: World of Warcraft® is available for pre-order now! Wide release is November 17, 2026, and Master Tier early access begins November 3.
This book will also release in French, Italian, German, and Spanish in 2027.
You can learn more here.
D&D | Star Wars™: The Season of Rebellion
A D&D | Star Wars™ collaboration has also been announced to take place in the Season of Rebellion, coming 2027.
Stay tuned for more details!
Continuing to Expand Your Favorite D&D Worlds
We want to let our community know that D&D Universes Beyond is additive to the incredible roadmap we have for our own worlds. We have been staffing up to support this initiative and look forward to what the future holds.
Speaking of which, let's explore how we’ll be returning to all of your favorite D&D settings more and more frequently...
D&D Icons: Legends Return to the Table

D&D Icons is a new initiative led by Joe Manganiello that pairs legendary creators and visionaries with the D&D team to shape the future of the game. Icons will touch everything from setting guides and adventure modules to accessories and beyond, all in close collaboration with the studio.
Dragonlance, with Tracy Hickman
Dragonlance is returning, with co-creator Tracy Hickman working with the team to give this storied setting a new, epic treatment.
Greyhawk, with Luke Gygax
Greyhawk is coming back as well. Luke Gygax is working from his father Gary Gygax's previously unreleased notes to build classic Greyhawk experiences planned for 2027, seen partly through the eyes of the archmage Melf.
Drizzt Do'Urden, with R.A. Salvatore
No D&D Icons lineup would be complete without the creator of the game's most enduring character—R.A. Salvatore. His Drizzt books have hit the New York Times bestseller list more than 20 times, selling over 50 million copies in a dozen languages.
Drizzt holds a special place in the world of D&D, and we're excited to bring the most legendary drow the Forgotten Realms has ever seen back to the table.
Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen

There's also a second Greyhawk project that we’re excited to announce: Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, a full-length adventure set on the world of Oerth.
It expands the story of Drelnza—the vampire daughter of Iggwilv the Witch Queen, better known to many players as Tasha—first introduced in Gary Gygax's 1976 classic S4: The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. You can explore her lair today in Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth.
The adventure follows Drelnza's attempt to become Greyhawk's newest Witch Queen.
New Studio Partnerships: Ravenloft, Eberron, and the Forgotten Realms

Three new studio partnerships will bring official content to more D&D settings: a return to Ravenloft and the Domains of Dread with Ghostfire Gaming in 2027; an Eberron adventure featuring the Lord of Blades from Visionary Productions in 2028; and new Forgotten Realms content from Kobold Press also coming in 2028.
Each release will be available both physically and digitally, with more partners to follow.
D&D Beyond: Making D&D Easier to Play, Together
Nine years after launch, D&D Beyond is recommitting to its founding mission with one new word: making D&D easier to play, together. The update centers on two pillars — Connect and Play.
Connect: Looking for Group
Now live at dndbeyond.com/lfg, you’ll find a hub for finding people to play D&D with!
It arrives with three paths to the table: a new D&D Event Finder where local game stores can post events for players to discover and attend; a rebuilt official D&D Discord server with a dedicated Find a Game section; and a partnership with StartPlaying that lets new players book one of its top-rated professional Dungeon Masters for just $0.99 for a limited time.
Check it out today!
Play: New Tools and a Mobile App
On the Play side, D&D Beyond is rolling out several requested features over the coming months: a rebuilt site search, new DM prep tools including a scene manager, map pins, and bookmarking, and mapless DM tools for running encounters without the Maps VTT.
An all-new D&D Beyond mobile app is also in development, built from the ground up to make in-person play easier. Powered by a new rules engine developed over the past two years, the app is designed to surface the right roll or reference quickly during a session.
An early version is planned for early 2027, with features added over time based on player feedback.
Warlock: Kaatri's Patron Revealed
The keynote also answered a long-standing question about Warlock, the upcoming third-person action-adventure game set in the D&D universe: the patron of lead character Kaatri, voiced by Tricia Hefler, is the powerful archfey Tasha, voiced by Maggie Robertson.
Tasha's face is being held back for the full gameplay reveal, which comes to Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25.
Dungeon Masters: The Official D&D Actual Play Series
D&D's actual play series Dungeon Masters featuring Devora Wilde, Mayanna Berrin, Christian Navarro, Jasmine Bhullar, and Neil Newbon is heading to Azeroth starting September 23, then will travel back to the Forgotten Realms (Icewind Dale, specifically) for some Faerûnian adventure with familiar faces.
New Adventure Lies on the Horizon
With an epic slate of new worlds, classic settings, video games, and digital tools lined up, we’re beyond excited to give our fans a brief divination of what lies on the horizon.
We’ll see you at the table.

Posted Aug 2, 2026The biggest failure with LFG that this continues to fail on, is searchability for things like ... I'm an Australian, I can't play on EST times.

Posted Aug 2, 2026Doesn't Star Wars have like 3 TTRPGs of its own (in addition to a d20 SRD based one)? Why the need for a 5e version?
Most other stuff seems good... But the UB announcement doesn't.

Posted Aug 2, 2026About Star Wars I feel a lot of curiosity about the PC species but I also wonder about the jedis as an independient class or a reskin of the mystic/psion. Will we see a D&D of PC species from Star Trek?
And what if any body wanted to create a crossover campaing with Star Wars+Transformers+G.I.Joe+Power Rangers?
Will we see "Fortnite: Save the World" like a D&D setting? Instant building in a VTT to create killboxes could be a serious game-design challenge.
* Would be "Battlezoo" by "Roll for combat" be possible in D&D Beyond?

Posted Aug 2, 2026PREACH.
"Fortnitified crossover slop" is the most accurate description, and I can't believe like 90% of comments are positive. It's encouraging to see someone else with the same thoughts as myself, because this announcement is really depressing.

Posted Aug 2, 2026@Caerwyn_Glyndwr are you an MTG player? If you were, you'd know that "just don't engage" isn't the point and isn't enough. This isn't like things were 40 or 20 years ago.
First of all, even if my home game won't have Star Wars, it would still be part of the ecosystem. It would show up whenever and wherever I engage with D&D culture. and It's the main company doing it as a major book release in their roadmap for the future of the game - that was never the case before.
Being optimistic is nice, but also be careful. You get to ignore 1-2 releases you don't like and that's fine, but if there's no backlash, then 2 years later 50% of releases are gonna be completely unrelated to the lore and feel of the original game. It's not gonna stay "in addition".

Posted Aug 2, 2026I watched the whole GenCon panel on YouTube and must say that I really like it. And obviously now is the time to make the new D&D Beyond app available in multiple languages ;) And let us choose in the marketplace which language our print book in the bundle will be to make the savings available for us foreigners as well...
All in all, this looks great, I love it.

Posted Aug 2, 2026Something tells me that WOW and Star Wars is going to be similar to the LOTR and Vampire releases. You could use them in your regular D$D game. But probably shouldn't.

Posted Aug 2, 2026So Much content im so excited!
But with all this new varying content In house, ICONS, 3rd party... I really hope D&D Beyond can have better options to sort and filter content. I dont want to be in a full fantasy setting and trying to add inventory and scroll past 10 lightsabers lol. Also maybe content is group like horror with Ravenloft, Grim hollow while if you select fantasy Greyhawk and Faerun come up.

Posted Aug 2, 2026I am a Magic player, and one who is not overly fond of some UB choices with Magic. I also am a longstanding D&D player, so I know this is not something new to the game. Both are reasons I know your post has no real merit as applied to D&D.
In Magic, you do not control what you play with. If a UB card is necessary for your deck, and does not have a UW printing, you either have to play that card or willingly sacrifice the power of your deck. Even if you choose to only play UW, you cannot control what others play - you might still be forced to interface with UB because someone else puts UB cards in their deck.
In D&D, you only play what you want. Which is why, despite the fact UB has existed in D&D since 1984, your game has not been overrun by Conan, Diablo, Rick and Morty, etc. Frankly, it is the same with official settings - just because Eberron and Forgotten Realms got books does not mean you need to include their settings in your Dragonlance… and it is easy enough to reskin things like Warforged or Scion of the Three rogue to work for Dragonlance.
And if watching other people in the community get excited about crossovers is a problem for you? Being a Magic player, I feel confident anyone advancing this gatekeeping argument is a bigger problem for the game’s health than UB. “I see other people get excited about a product I do not want, and instead of tuning them out what I do not care a lit and letting them be happy … I proclaim the thing they are happy about is ruining my game and should not exist…” is not as effective an argument as you seem to think.
This, of course, is why the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Most people realize they control their D&D experience through ignoring content and reskinning it, and have basic empathy to know they can respect others’ excitement even if they do not share in it. Quite frankly, Magic could use a little less “yucking others yum” - the gatekeeping on display in the Magic online community has been truly vile recently.

Posted Aug 2, 2026I am excited to see all the new content and I'm just curious if we're ever going to get the full Drakkenheim content I understand maybe having to hold off on the apothecary class in terms of character selection....but I think we could have at least done something similar to Helianas.
