Would you like to play some D&D?
On Saturday, August 10th at 1pm PT Community Manager Lauren "OboeCrazy" Urban is going to run a one shot D&D game on the D&D Beyond Discord for four members of our community. They'll get to try out the DDB Avrae Bot in action, get a sneak peak at an upcoming Encounter of the Week, and win a Legendary Bundle!
Here's how to enter for a chance to win one of those spots:
- Make sure you are available to play a D&D game on Saturday August 10th at 1pm PT. Plan on about 2 hours for the game. You'll also need a headset so you can participate in the voice chat.
- Create a level 3 character in D&D Beyond using the standard array and only the Basic Rules. Only what is available in the free Basic Rules are allowed! Otherwise you are free to create whatever kind of character you would like!
- Join our Discord! Once you've joined go to the channel called #ddb-encounter-entry .
- In that channel post a link to your D&D Beyond character sheet and a short summary of who they are. Keep your description at about two short sentences! Only one entry per person.
Entries will be taken until Monday August 5th at 12pm PT. At that time we will turn off the ability to post, but turn on the ability to leave a reaction to those who have entered! The community will use their reactions to vote on who they think should get a spot in the game. Voting will end on August 8th at 8am PT, and the four winner will be announced on the Dev Update that day!

Posted Aug 1, 2019When you say only the Basic Rules, do you mean the WotC document, including the SRD, or all free official content available, such as races in the EEPC and other stuff like the Haunted One background? Can we use a customized background? With a custom background feature as well?

I'm flattered you like the show enough to want to guest star! This game is just about having fun on the Discord, it won't be broadcast in any way and there's no future commitments. But we'll keep that suggestion in mind for future contests...
While I don't see us asking anyone in our community to pay to play D&D, this contest is certainly a test run for doing more community run games on a larger scale!
We would offer you the option to gift your bundle to someone else!
That welcome screen should have some rules you need to agree to abide by before you can join the server. At the bottom of those rules there should be an emote of a B you can click on, signifying you've agreed to the rules, and that will allow you to enter the full server including the channel to post your character!
Only what is available in the Basic Rules is allowed. The only custom or homebrew you are allowed is in the creation of your backstory and the personality of your character!
Just the Basic Rules, not the other free content released, or homebrew or custom stuff. Sorry, no Aarakocra!
Y'all know how much I love Aarakocra, but to keep things simple and easy we're sticking with the one free source. Maybe next game will feature an attack wing of bird bards!
