Would you like to play some D&D?
On Saturday, August 10th at 1pm PT Community Manager Lauren "OboeCrazy" Urban is going to run a one shot D&D game on the D&D Beyond Discord for four members of our community. They'll get to try out the DDB Avrae Bot in action, get a sneak peak at an upcoming Encounter of the Week, and win a Legendary Bundle!
Here's how to enter for a chance to win one of those spots:
- Make sure you are available to play a D&D game on Saturday August 10th at 1pm PT. Plan on about 2 hours for the game. You'll also need a headset so you can participate in the voice chat.
- Create a level 3 character in D&D Beyond using the standard array and only the Basic Rules. Only what is available in the free Basic Rules are allowed! Otherwise you are free to create whatever kind of character you would like!
- Join our Discord! Once you've joined go to the channel called #ddb-encounter-entry .
- In that channel post a link to your D&D Beyond character sheet and a short summary of who they are. Keep your description at about two short sentences! Only one entry per person.
Entries will be taken until Monday August 5th at 12pm PT. At that time we will turn off the ability to post, but turn on the ability to leave a reaction to those who have entered! The community will use their reactions to vote on who they think should get a spot in the game. Voting will end on August 8th at 8am PT, and the four winner will be announced on the Dev Update that day!
Enjoy making characters!
Couple Questions:
Starting Equipment? I chose starting equipment and am buying some stuff with the leftover gold, assuming we can sell things for half price and get more, but can we add an item or two (or extra gold) for being a level 3 character?
For flavor, I have a Fighter/Bard that attached lute strings to his battleaxe... is this kind of customization prohibited? I did make sure I had both a lute and a battleaxe so not giving myself anything free. (also took mending for inevitable string breaks).
Thanks!
I would love to do this, but I won't be able to. I wish best of luck to those four who do get the chance!
What about things from the DMG like the variant aasimar? Technically in the basic rules.
I have a question about the voting with reactions after participation is closed:
Are people gonna have to scroll all the way around through the thousands of entries in the discord channel? Wouldn't that mean that nobody would even bother to read the first people that participated and the last to send would be the ones immediately on the screen?
Augh! I JUST signed up for an Epic at our friendly local game shop.
Also interested in how you'd like to handle starting equipment. ^^ Sounds like it'll be fun!
"Basic Rules" doesn't include the DMG on D&D Beyond. The only races included in Basic Rules are Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Human, Dragonborn, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, and Tiefling. Variant Human yes, Variant Tieflings no.
Aw, this sounds like so much fun! Sadly, I will be on a flight during the time, so best of luck to the four lucky winners!
How should I roll for stats?
I assume point buy but please correct me if I'm wrong.
There are so many entries now; is there going to be a streamlined voting process or is it just a free-for-all?
Aww, I'll be running my usual game then. Have a blast folx :)
One of the best ideas since the voting for the president of D&D! Hmm? That wasn't that long ago? Ok. So many wonderful ideas am I right!?
Use the standard array.
I would use the character creator to select/decide my starting equipment, no more, no less.
This is a good explanation of my concerns as well. I hope D&D Beyond considers this carefully.
Let the Character Creator do it for you, no more no less, and you should be fine.
I would imagine it would be best to just use the character creator to select your starting equipment, no more, no less.
That's a cool character idea there and I think it would be cool. Maybe if you're picked talk to them about it. Otherwise follow the rules and hope, haha.
Quick question: The Basic Rules list several subclasses, but usually only details one (i.e. for Cleric it only details rules for Life Domain.) Are we allowed to use any of the subclasses mentioned?
I want to play but I'll be running a one shot of my own!
The day I'm going to actually play DND with friends is the day this happens. Just my luck.
