Would you like to play some D&D?
On Saturday, August 10th at 1pm PT Community Manager Lauren "OboeCrazy" Urban is going to run a one shot D&D game on the D&D Beyond Discord for four members of our community. They'll get to try out the DDB Avrae Bot in action, get a sneak peak at an upcoming Encounter of the Week, and win a Legendary Bundle!
Here's how to enter for a chance to win one of those spots:
- Make sure you are available to play a D&D game on Saturday August 10th at 1pm PT. Plan on about 2 hours for the game. You'll also need a headset so you can participate in the voice chat.
- Create a level 3 character in D&D Beyond using the standard array and only the Basic Rules. Only what is available in the free Basic Rules are allowed! Otherwise you are free to create whatever kind of character you would like!
- Join our Discord! Once you've joined go to the channel called #ddb-encounter-entry .
- In that channel post a link to your D&D Beyond character sheet and a short summary of who they are. Keep your description at about two short sentences! Only one entry per person.
Entries will be taken until Monday August 5th at 12pm PT. At that time we will turn off the ability to post, but turn on the ability to leave a reaction to those who have entered! The community will use their reactions to vote on who they think should get a spot in the game. Voting will end on August 8th at 8am PT, and the four winner will be announced on the Dev Update that day!
Enjoy making characters!
I've put my guy up! It'll be a 5 AM game for me if I'm picked, but definitely worth it.
Shame I can't play that day! Is there going to be an article about the game at some point in the future?
I want to submit my character but I only see the Welcome Channel. Can anyone help me find the #ddb-encounter-entry ?
Read the rules!
How does one enable the ability to leave reactions on discord?
Should we assume standard array for Ability Scores?
You can't be rejected if you don't apply! :D :'D
Wish I could join, good luck to everyone!
If I were to make a druid, what animals could i use for wildshape
What steps are being taken in the contest to prevent people from simply creating a vast number of accounts and adding reactions to their character entry?
This sound like good fun! Good luck to everyone who enters and I hope the 4 winners have a good game!
Depending on how the discord page loads for people, doesn't this format of voting more strongly favor people who submitted their characters either very early or at the very end? That is to say, arent there going to be some characters that simply get viewed more than others because they are the first ones to appear when someone opens the page? After reading 4 or 5 character descriptions and voting, I imagine most people will just stop scrolling up or down the list, and wont even see characters in the middle.
By "Basic Rules", do you mean what D&D Beyond filters as "Basic Rules"? Because the Basic Rules only have 4 classes and 4 races.
Is Human Variant allowed?
When everyone votes, will non-valid characters be automatically removed, or will we have to check the characters ourselves? Just browsing the entries already listed I'm noticing a TON of rules violations. Primal Savagery is not a Basic Rules cantrip people.
definitely doing this
Sounds Great, but the time is awful...why not at night?
I was sent a DM from a mod to fix my character, but that was in the first couple hours. Can't imagine that were able to keep up with the entries.
I really do wish there was a better way of voting. There are so many characters. Maybe break them into groups based on classes?
Yeaaah.... this was the worse possible way of organizing the sending and voting. 4 people that are either in the beginning or the end, or that have a lot of friends in the server are gonna win, or in the best of cases, the 3 or 4 people that are bored enough to go through ALL participants will decide who edges into the win. You should've just asked for emails.
