Would you like to play some D&D?
On Saturday, August 10th at 1pm PT Community Manager Lauren "OboeCrazy" Urban is going to run a one shot D&D game on the D&D Beyond Discord for four members of our community. They'll get to try out the DDB Avrae Bot in action, get a sneak peak at an upcoming Encounter of the Week, and win a Legendary Bundle!
Here's how to enter for a chance to win one of those spots:
- Make sure you are available to play a D&D game on Saturday August 10th at 1pm PT. Plan on about 2 hours for the game. You'll also need a headset so you can participate in the voice chat.
- Create a level 3 character in D&D Beyond using the standard array and only the Basic Rules. Only what is available in the free Basic Rules are allowed! Otherwise you are free to create whatever kind of character you would like!
- Join our Discord! Once you've joined go to the channel called #ddb-encounter-entry .
- In that channel post a link to your D&D Beyond character sheet and a short summary of who they are. Keep your description at about two short sentences! Only one entry per person.
Entries will be taken until Monday August 5th at 12pm PT. At that time we will turn off the ability to post, but turn on the ability to leave a reaction to those who have entered! The community will use their reactions to vote on who they think should get a spot in the game. Voting will end on August 8th at 8am PT, and the four winner will be announced on the Dev Update that day!
Enjoy making characters!
Kinda feel like the most recent submissions have a better chance at winning since they're the first you see.
I totally agree. Maybe next time it could be organized differently? Also I thought it was supposed to only be two sentences right? I kept to it but most of the "winning ones" have a paragraph or two.
Yeah I noticed that too. Lots of the ones with more votes have more than two sentences. I made a character backstory on the character sheet, but left an eye-catcher as the two sentence description. Feels like we're getting jipped.
Totally agree! I did the same!
Around the middle where I submitted my character I've seen some really good and interesting characters. But they have like 3 votes because who would want to scroll that high.
Just a note for you folks if you do another of these in the future. I wrote two very short sentences as instructed but then wrote a very long backstory that I was very excited for people to read. However when you access the character I shared users are unable to even read that backstory. Its a shame because I put a decent amount of time into writing that up. I am unsure why that shareable link doesnt allow users to see the backstory section but on the surface my character looks pretty shallow because I followed the parameters given us... and seeing that I wouldn't vote for me without seeing that bigger backstory.
P.S. This was still a great idea and I had fun writing what I did.
Agree... and same.
I saw this a day late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can't believe I missed submission by a day
Wish I saw this earlier...
Seconded!
I know it's been said, but the voting structure definitely leans toward late submissions getting more attention. This was poorly executed. It's made even worse by Discord's "you're viewing older message" link that dumps you right back at the bottom(more of an issue on mobile).
Oh no! I just realized i saw this too late, although my chances are slim, they're probably gone due to the cosmetic character frames and background. Darn, maybe next time if you run this again. Thank you.
Edit: I changed them to the basic rules frame/background/theme in hope i can earn a chance still. Good luck to all adventurers!
Upon thinking about the way the voting was done here, I have a suggestion for the future, though I don't know how viable it would be. Maybe instead of making it a straight popularity contest (with "luck" of placement), each vote for a character could count as an entry in a random lotto, so that even the entries in the middle that are least likely to be seen by most people would still have a chance. Lots of votes for a character would make it more likely it would win, but not be a guarantee. It would also keep up the suspense of who's going to win instead of a lead in the first few hours pretty much clenching it. A compromise between random and voting to encourage entrants to still put some effort into their submission without everyone just trying to be one of the first or last few entries.
I like this idea. Seconded
I also don't see the channel. I was hoping to enter.
I just opened the channel for the first time in days, but left it for a second it disappeared before I could read the latest messages. Who was chosen?
Will the Dev Update be posted later today? Very excited to see who the winners are!
Is there any way to be able to listen in on discord or will the session be recorded for listening later?
So did I miss something? I didnt see a developer update listing who won?
Yeah same here.
