D&D Beyond is excited to announce the release of the all-new, consolidated D&D Beyond App! Gone are the days of two separate apps: we’ve combined the power of the D&D Beyond toolset with new mobile features to make your Dungeons & Dragons 5th-edition games more accessible and more fun. The app is available to download for free on iOS and Android.
The toolset makes it easier to reference D&D content, with features ranging from a guided character creation, dynamic character sheets and spell management, plus the ability to search and bookmark books in your library. The app is the perfect mobile solution for every D&D player — whether you’re a new player, a veteran campaigner, or legendary Dungeon Master.
Play with Advantage
Mobile character creation is easier with the character builder tool walking you through every step of the character creation process. You’ll never have to enter a game without your character sheet again — access your characters online or offline and be ready for skill checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or whatever twists your DM throws at you. Manage your character's health, abilities, spells, and inventory.
Forgot your dice? Roll directly in the app with themed digital dice sets!
Dungeon Masters will enjoy the ability to easily access monster stat blocks and game rules in the D&D Beyond App. Bookmark your favorite monsters or frequently used rules, search spells, and gaze longingly over your backlog of characters you'd love to play (some day, maybe...).
What if I already own the Player App or Reader App?
Adventurers who have the D&D Beyond Player App will simply need to update the app to access the new tools! If you are using the D&D Beyond Reader App, you'll need to migrate over to the new app.
I would say it's halfway there. Everything it has implemented is great, but would like to see the ability to edit character sheets and implement tools like the Encounter Builder and Combat Tracker once they're out of testing.
Just update your current character app.
Go to app in the app store and it will show you either an Open (you are updated), an Update (press to update), or Download.
Glad to see the app under active development and trust this refresh will form a base for many improvements over time.
This is the biggest problem currently. It makes using the consolidated app less functional than using the separate Reader and Player apps was.
Good lord yes I second this
I cannot see sage advice in sources. It was there in the old compendium app. Is this intended?
I would like to remove my present account (username gryffanueil . . .) completely and start over wit the the email downeyroger4@gmail.com. Is this possible? Thanks.
I really like the new consolidated app, I also want to request the lower menu stay on the screen so you can quickly switch between screens.
Also is anyone else having trouble importing their bookmarks from the old reader app. It keeps saying it's working but then nothing happens.
I think this a great step forward. How about the addition of the campaign section for DMs to view all their players information.
3rds on this as well. And with it being consolidated, still some links aren’t working from inside the class archetypes it seems.
In what way is the App superior to the web site? Why should I not continue to use that instead?
It lets you have all the sourcebooks downloaded, and is a lot easier to look through content on.
I don't know that I'd specifically say easier but it does allow you to read access your content offline. That's the main draw, IMO.
BOOKS:
- You can download them and have them available offline, including shared content. Some report that the books are also easier to read in the app.
SHEETS:
- You can also have your character sheets downloaded ahead of time (but no offline editing)
- Some prefer the look and layout of the app sheets (although others hate the dark theme)
OVERALL:
- Single-click access on your phone/tablet
- Future features? (One would hope they're working on having encounters be downloadable as well)
So far, it's a work-in-progress. I personally still prefer the site. It's just as easy to use, provides more detail (like action/spell notes,) and has easier editing (the app forces you to the site to edit anyways.)
Spell management still not up for iOS. Is this even happening soon or should we just give up on it. A little transparency would be nice.
I cant make characters with shared content. I thought the app would fix that in the update. Nope.
That's because you aren't accessing a campaign through the app. Even on the website, to create a character using shared content, you can only do it via a link to a campaign where content sharing has been enabled, not openly outside that.
They’re being very transparent, if you want to watch an in depth discussion with the app lead dev, check out the Dev Diary on YouTube. This feature is still being worked on. Next in line is inventory management.
