D&D Beyond is excited to announce the release of the all-new, consolidated D&D Beyond App! Gone are the days of two separate apps: we’ve combined the power of the D&D Beyond toolset with new mobile features to make your Dungeons & Dragons 5th-edition games more accessible and more fun. The app is available to download for free on iOS and Android.
The toolset makes it easier to reference D&D content, with features ranging from a guided character creation, dynamic character sheets and spell management, plus the ability to search and bookmark books in your library. The app is the perfect mobile solution for every D&D player — whether you’re a new player, a veteran campaigner, or legendary Dungeon Master.
Play with Advantage
Mobile character creation is easier with the character builder tool walking you through every step of the character creation process. You’ll never have to enter a game without your character sheet again — access your characters online or offline and be ready for skill checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or whatever twists your DM throws at you. Manage your character's health, abilities, spells, and inventory.
Forgot your dice? Roll directly in the app with themed digital dice sets!
Dungeon Masters will enjoy the ability to easily access monster stat blocks and game rules in the D&D Beyond App. Bookmark your favorite monsters or frequently used rules, search spells, and gaze longingly over your backlog of characters you'd love to play (some day, maybe...).
What if I already own the Player App or Reader App?
Adventurers who have the D&D Beyond Player App will simply need to update the app to access the new tools! If you are using the D&D Beyond Reader App, you'll need to migrate over to the new app.
The files were downloading to internal memory and took up all the space. I now removed both D&D Beyond and D&D Beyond Reader (hoping to remove all content I downloaded) but the Internal Memory is still almost full. I have no music/videos and very few photos. How can I check to see if the D&D Beyond purged the content I purchased and downloaded?
Once I have this figured out, I will install the app again and hopefully direct the downloads to the external memory card.
No way to do that yet, unfortunately.
this is going to be the coolest thing as a addition to dnd since this website! love D&D and never stop rolling!
the compendium is broken for me. i can't swipe between pages and some indexes are linked wrong (i.e. in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, when I click on "Volstrucker Agent" the app takes me to the Subclasses page)
how did this pass QA? this is unusable
I want to boost this. Please allow for the option to save to an external device like the previous app did. Other then that, I have no complaints so far.
Can't you make this available for the Kindle Fire?
Amazon’s Fire Tablet normally restricts you to the Amazon Appstore. But the Fire Tablet runs Fire OS, which is based on Android. You can install Google’s Play Store and gain access to every Android app, including Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps, Hangouts, and the over one million apps in Google Play.

Swiping pages in the reader is really spotty at best it seems. I wish I could permanently hide the stuff I haven't downloaded in the library. Otherwise, this is great.
Absorbed previous content: GOOD.
Handling of bookmark folders: BETTER THAN BEFORE, therefore EXCELLENT.
Still cannot see my HOMEBREW contents, so that scores MEH and means it cannot replace my use of the full web app.
No access at all to my CAMPAIGNS, so for that it scores ZERO/SAME AS BEFORE. Also meh and cannot replace my use of the full web app.
I'll check if it can let me edit an incomplete CHARACTER at a better hour.
UI is better than before for downloading the books into library - "filling up" the art on the cover is a classy indicator.
Final score: solid B, incapable of A without access to same-as-web.
Great, now i can use it whenever i need it.
I'm having the exact same issue. The button isn't there at all. Same for equipment. No button to manage it.
This app has reduced functionality from the two separate DDB Player and DDB Reader apps, especially when used for reference. Really, it just seems to be the two apps' functionality combined into a single interface. This reduces the usefulness of both apps.
Consider: I used to be able to reference the PHB (or Listings or other sourcebooks) while I was viewing a character. You could do this by having both windows open on iPad (Split View) or by swiping between them with a gesture on iPhone. Now, I can't even get to the different sections of the App (Characters, Library, Listing, Search) without first backtracking out of where I'm at. For characters, this even loses my place in the character I was viewing. This is a major hindrance.
Bookmarks have also become less accessible. They used to live in a button at the bottom of the Reader app at all times allowing you to jump from one bookmark to another at any time while reading any book. Listings have the same problem. In fact, you used to be able to customize the interface buttons that were always available on the DDB Reader's Menu screen lower bar. This bar is not present when in the Library so you have to backtrack out of library onto the main menu to get at the bookmarks or listings.
Beyond the reduced function, my main gripe with both DDB apps is still here: the Display settings do not scale appropriately for the larger iPad screen. The result is huge text and graphics that ultimately just encourage me to abandon the app and use the DDB website. This is somewhat manageable by using the iPad Split View and Slide Over features but it's super distracting to open a character or reference book and have it be so big on the iPad's screen. I used to avoid using the iPad for general browsing and mainly use it with a split screen workflow such as during a game where I want both character and references works open. This app doesn't even let me do that.
Please leave the DDB Reader app available for use until these issues are addressed!
I havent been able to find one yet and Im having the same issue :/
I havent been able to find one yet and Im having the same issue :/
I have access to some books simply because they are shared in a campaign. Can I either open or download those? - it always gives me an error.
I just checked it out and it looks great. Any plans to add the ability for DMs to see the character sheets for PCs in their campaigns?
I was hoping for a built in encounter generator / tracker, but this new app still seems geared towards players with very little to help DM’s with exception of hyperlinks and offline use.
Why I have to buy my books again? I thought that I could access my books from the website in this App?
I don't speak for D&D Beyond, but honestly, they probably won't; it just doesn't make much sense to.
First, I'm presuming the last thing they want is complaints about how sheets on some devices aren't synced with sheets on other devices. And offline updating would pretty much be begging for that to happen. So the workaround is to ensure you're online before allowing updating, so that everything can remain synced.
And if they know you're going to be online anyway, then it makes sense for them to let your browser do the heavy lifting of acting as a UI to edit things, using code they've already written. Spending all that $$$ and time reinventing the wheel, just to save a step or two, when they're not going to allow for offline updates in the first place.... just doesn't seem very cost-effective.
You should be able to. I was able to download all of mine and view them without incident.
I use Android devices though, which may make a difference as opposed to iOS, which may be having issues with that feature at the moment. If this is the case, I imagine they'll fix this ASAP; otherwise half the app will be worthless for iOS users.
