Homebrew Fairy Species Details
Fairies are nature's immature answer to elves. They are chaotic even with their laws. They are shy and reclusive and adore playing tricks and pranks, seldom bothering outsiders otherwise unless their curiosity gets the better of them.
Fairies rarely reach over 1 foot tall, and their wings come in many designs and patterns, ranging from butterfly to beetle. They often look like tiny elves, with pointed ears and ranging skin tones. They carry the normal array of human skin tones as well as light shades of the rest of the spectrum of colors, coming from light shades of red to copper and bronze. They can even carry small attributes of the insect family they hail from, including antennae, fluff, and the wing styles. Their eyes often look like a molten liquid but the pupils can be visible if you can ever get a close enough look. They love vibrantly colored clothes or shiny metal armor, something that speaks about their personality on a level that other pixies and some people can understand.
In the world, fairies make their homes in deep forests or hidden grottos beneath the hills of the Moonshae Isles, far beyond the sight of other humanoids. In these places, fairies cast their shimmering lights to color their domains in incandescent hues, gradually shifting from soft red to bright yellow to deep violet and back again. Some say that the realms of the fairies are the places where rainbows begin and end, and those rainbows are fairy roads emanating from the light of the kingdoms they connect, which can be seen by mortals only when the sun shines through the rain. Though fairies prefer to keep out of sight, they can be found almost anywhere in the Feywild. As intrinsically magical as they are whimsical, fairies enhance the world around them with their presence.
Fairies will often take on the names of humans or elves, and sometimes those of the plants and trees that they find their homes in.

Sounds fun! I can't wait to play this on my next campaign.
Wait so do you have to be in the persons space in order to attack them? thats my understanding from the dragonfly subrace having a reach of 5ft.
All melee weapons pretty much by default have a range of 5 feet. That means you can attack 5 feet away from yourself in an adjacent square.
By memory, there was a variant rule from somewhere that said that tiny characters have a range of 0, this author is probably just using that
The homebrew created by Dainton is almost exact copy. Daiton has nothing after the subrace section is only major difference in feature.: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/819-fairy
When I use this race in the character creator, I only get a +1 in dexterity instead of the +2. Why is that?
Dragonfly should have movement speed burst for one turn, and you should add Bee / Wasp fairy where they can use their bonus attack to sting
Most likely they just messed up when actually adding the bonus to it. Simply give yourself an override +1
ahh, i see you're taking the jk rowling route and making insectoid faeries
I would think that dragonflies should have dexterity instead of strength. You could add another subrace to give strength to, and maybe one for intelligence too. I did this, giving wasps strength and fireflies intelligence.
Much more flavorful than the version in WBtWL
A humorous thought comes to mind of a fairy juiced up on haste running around and touching every single weapons and armor worn by enemy and ally alike. Ya know that scene in Despicable Me with the shrink ray? Yea...that.
