Homebrew Coatled Tiefling Race Details

Descended from both infernal tieflings and holy coatls, these tieflings are divided into two subraces. One is the Brightwings, and the other is the Holyscales. Brightwings have rainbow-colored feathery wings, which they inherited from coatls, and the Holyscales have glimmering bright scales, and the innate ability to cast spells coatls inherently get. Both subraces have scale colored tails and horns, and often scaly legs. Their skin is often white, silver, gold, yellow, green, blue, bright orange, or turquoise, and are only very rarely the more infernal colors, of scarlet, deep orange, deep purple, gray, or ash.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom Score increases by 2 due to your celestial descent.

Age

Tieflings mature at the same rate as humans, but can live to up to 250 years old.

Alignment

Due to their celestial descent, coatled tieflings are often good, but this is often only due to their upbringing. They tend towards law as well, but can be any alignment.

Darkvision

Thanks to both your infernal and celestial heritage, you have superior vision in dark, dim, and magically dark conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can also see through magical darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Holy Resistance

Due to your celestial descent, your connection with they mystic coatls, and both of your otherworldly heritages, you have resistance to psychic and radiant damage.

Languages

You can speak, read, write, and understand Common and Celestial.

Subrace

Two main subraces of coatled tieflings are found in Tor-eal: Holyscales and Brightwings.

Brightwings (2)

A winged subrace of the coatled tieflings, you are able to fly, instead of casting the celestial spells.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity Score increases by 1.

Wings

You have rainbow-colored angelic wings, which were inherited from your coatl ancestors. You have a flying speed of 30 feet while not wearing heavy armor.

Holyscales

With brightly glimmering scales covering your legs, tails, and horns, your celestial heritage grants you the ability to cast spells.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma Score increases by 1.

Celestial Legacy

You know the sacred flame cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the shield once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the detect thoughts spell once with this trait, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
