Homebrew Anomalous Mimic Species Details

"Although most are truly harmless, it is best not to try one's luck when one encounters an Anomalous Mimic. Best to be rid of these crimes of nature, rather than let them live"

— Evern Heilhem, Order of the Monster Hunter

Anomalous Mimics are a very rare species of mimics, rather than objects they can shift their form to be any biological creature that they have previously consumed. Many Anomalous Mimics do not begin their life cycle as one, rather many begin as a piece of a Predatory Mimic that has had a large and steady food supply, and begin their early lives eating bugs and smaller creatures.

It is only when they have gotten their toothy maws on a shape-changing creature, such as a Changeling, do they begin their lives as Anomalous Mimics. Gaining a great sense of self, as well as intelligence on par with an average human. At this point, they will often disguise themselves as either what their victim currently appeared as, or as a previous victim, tho their true, Eldritch appearance does stay the same.

Monsterous and Grotesque

Their true form, often appearing as an almost Amorphis blob of teeth lined maws, and unsettling, piercing eyes, terrifying those who were to gaze upon their visage. This causes the Anomalous Mimic often to fear being found out, and do their best to either hide away from any civilization or to hide in plain sight, either taking over the lives of some unfortunate fool or creating their own, unique identity. Many choosing not to stay around for long and decide to become adventures, or traveling merchants is the best course of action, allowing them to travel freely without much restraints.

Appetite

Although Anomalous Mimics tend to live normal, albeit isolated lives, they cannot escape their monstrous hunger, often needing extra food to sustain themselves, they are seen eating twice the amount someone for their size, if not even more. Once an Anomalous Mimic has consumed a large quantity of food, they will have a part of their body detach in order to keep them from growing too large. These fallen bits tend to have their own consciousness and also at some point live their own lives as Anomalous Mimics.

Morality

Anomalous Mimics generally choose to live harmless, passive lives, often feeding on what nature gives them, similar to their relatives the Predatory Mimic, but those who have felt the scorn of those that would rather see them as monsters, few choose to live lives as assassins or serial killers, taking revenge on those who have wronged them.
