You create a sound or an image of an object within range that lasts for the duration. The illusion also ends if you dismiss it as an action or cast this spell again.
If you create a sound, its volume can range from a whisper to a scream. It can be your voice, someone else's voice, a lion's roar, a beating of drums, or any other sound you choose. The sound continues unabated throughout the duration, or you can make discrete sounds at different times before the spell ends.
If you create an image of an object--such as a chair, muddy footprints, or a small chest--it must be no larger than a 5-foot cube. The image can't create sound, light, smell, or any other sensory effect. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it.
If a creature uses its action to examine the sound or image, the creature can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the illusion becomes faint to the creature.

Can be a fun, if not deceptive, way to also team up with a party member to avoid paying for maps (assuming DM approves). Caster studies the map while partner engages the merchant to haggle - then we go outside, caster minor illusions a copy of the map while memory is fresh (my DM required a roll to see how much I remembered), and then partner quickly traces it on paper. Voila, cheap map.
So i gave one of my players a sword of great illusion and it takes any normal spell and increases the level by 2. they've had a blast messing with its capabilities.
can the illusion be animated
edit never-mind but now i have another question the illusion cannot move but what does that entail specifically like is it still effected by gravity
E
A wax replica of a creature or person is an object.... So, creatures are back on the menu !
I would say no, it isn't affected by gravity. It's not a real thing with actual mass, it's a magical illusion.
I especially like how one of the examples of a single object you can make with it would be muddy footprints.
Not a chunk of mud that looks like it has foot-shaped depressions in it. A collection of multiple impressions of feet, each consisting of mud.
Can you combine this with Mage Hand to imitate a Crawling Claw?
Brilliant!
So this covers a 5ft square area, most doors for taller folk (like humans, elves, tiefling, ect) are commonly 6ft ish so could you use this spell to fully magically cover a normal size door (make it look like part of the wall) or make it look like there is one?
Both of those seem like valid uses to me.
it does not mention how loud said scream is, so it could, potentially, be a sapphire dragon scream or something, so this part might need elaboration
then you can just disorient the bats with repeated clicks that will basically blind them.
Minor illusion a glass display case (5ft cube), wildshape into a black bear (4ft tall), sit inside, wait to pounce on your unsuspecting victim.
