Three illusory duplicates of yourself appear in your space. Until the spell ends, the duplicates move with you and mimic your actions, shifting position so it's impossible to track which image is real. You can use your action to dismiss the illusory duplicates.
Each time a creature targets you with an attack during the spell's duration, roll a d20 to determine whether the attack instead targets one of your duplicates.
If you have three duplicates, you must roll a 6 or higher to change the attack's target to a duplicate. With two duplicates, you must roll an 8 or higher. With one duplicate, you must roll an 11 or higher.
A duplicate's AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier. If an attack hits a duplicate, the duplicate is destroyed. A duplicate can be destroyed only by an attack that hits it. It ignores all other damage and effects. The spell ends when all three duplicates are destroyed.
A creature is unaffected by this spell if it can't see, if it relies on senses other than sight, such as blindsight, or if it can perceive illusions as false, as with truesight.

Posted Jun 11, 2021Today I learned: Mirror Image triggers Sentinel?! :star_struck
Seems kind of cool from a fiction viewpoint as well. The enemy strikes the illusion putting himself in a position for you to land an vicious attack due to his inability to discern which target is really you.
On the down side.. no reaction for shield, absorb, counterspell

Posted Jun 21, 2021The language is unclear: do you have to redirect the attack if your roll enables you to? Otherwise its useless for Armorers who wouldn't be hit by attacks that would destroy a duplicate?

Posted Jun 21, 2021Can you choose to let an attack hit you instead of your duplicates? For instance, someone attacking me with Magic Missile and letting the attacks hit me and using Shield to negate the damage.

Posted Jun 22, 2021Magic missile is not an attack, and so would not be affected by mirror image.
However, more to your question, I don’t think you can choose where the attack goes. The spell says to roll before the attack is actually made, and that the attack is “directed” at a duplicate if you roll high enough. There is no wording to suggest a choice on your part about using the effect, it just happens.

Posted Aug 23, 2021Just thinking out loud Magic Missile does not require a "roll to hit" so would it not work like the fireball example? I think it would in my game, but just my thought.

Posted Oct 31, 2021So just to clarify... If your warlock casts mirror image on turn 1 and then attacks on turn 2, does he just attack once or 4 times since there is 4 duplicates?

Posted Nov 3, 2021Just the one. The images are illusory and the spell doesn't mention any changes to attacks. Mentioning it though, you would think the images would provide at least some benefits to attacking, as they are hiding the true position/duplicating those attacks making it harder to dodge and block.
But its already a pretty powerful spell as it is, it does not need to boost attacks as well. Slight dissonance for the sake of spell balance.

Posted Feb 13, 2022stacks beautifully with blur. thematically and mechanically. images are also blurred and changing an attack's target to a blurred image still lowers the chance of the image actually being hit by said attack, increasing its lifespan.

Posted Mar 21, 2022It literally says "A creature is unaffected by this spell if it can't see, if it relies on senses other than sight, such as blindsight, or if it can perceive illusions as false, as with truesight." So unless you want to argue that tremorsense also counts as regular vision, then yeah it wouldn't help. But since everyone else considers tremorsense to not be considered the same as sight, then it ignores these illusory copies.
