You evoke a fiery blade in your free hand. The blade is similar in size and shape to a scimitar, and it lasts for the duration. If you let go of the blade, it disappears, but you can evoke it again as a Bonus Action.
As a Magic action, you can make a melee spell attack with the fiery blade. On a hit, the target takes Fire damage equal to 3d6 plus your spellcasting ability modifier.
The flaming blade sheds Bright Light in a 10-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 10 feet.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage increases by 1d6 for each spell slot level above 2.

Posted Sep 18, 2025I'll be honest I missed where it said it adds your spellcasting ability modifier.
I suppose that is a pretty substantial improvement from the previous version.

Posted Apr 19, 2026I think on top of that, it takes a magic action to cast true strike and a magic action to strike with the Fiery Blade... even if a DM hand waved the component cost, i think this issue prohibits it

Posted Apr 20, 2026That's a good point, and (as I mentioned in one of my other comments) even if you ignore the material component cost, the effect created by this spell isn't actually a weapon at all. I think it's very clear, for all of these reasons, that it's not intended for this spell to work with things like True Strike that require an actual weapon to be used.
