A protective magical force ignites around your armor providing light in a 30ft sphere.
If you are wearing armor you are proficient in you gain AC equal equal to your proficiency for the duration. Creatures who don't wear armor, are naturally armored or wear armor they are not proficient in do not gain the bonus AC.
If a creature hits you with a melee attack while the armor is active, the creature takes radiant damage equal to the bonus AC. Undead, fiends, devils and demons which trigger this damage takes double damage.
This spell may be cast over armors that are already enchanted or otherwise magical, as it does not affect the armor but only uses it as a foundation.
At Higher Levels. This spell may be cast up to level 5. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the bonus AC is increased by your proficiency bonus times the level of the spell slot used. (For example: When cast as as level 3 spell Bonus AC is 3 times your proficiency multiplier).

Posted Aug 16, 2018This is pretty darn good, consider upping the level slightly

Posted Aug 3, 2019I agree, this should be a third level spell minimum. Consider a paladin with scale mail and shield. 18 AC, if you are like level 5, this would be 21 AC and 3 damage to anyone who hits you. Too op, and it also scales with character level...

Posted Jan 20, 2020I would agree that as written, this spell overwhelms other first level spells. However, I don't think that it can't work as a first level spell with some tweaks. I think the extra description about additional damage against fiends (which includes both devils and demons) and undead is unnessesary as they are already likely vulnerable to radiant damage. I think the upcasting feature for this is however far too strong. The Tarrasque has a +19 to hit. A Paladin (only a half caster, which makes this even more frightening) at 14th level who should have no business going toe to toe with a CR 30 creature, could simply cast this spell at 4th level and in addition to the normal 18 AC that a paladin will often have, they gain (5 profficiency x 4th level spell) a +20 to their armour class, leaving you with a situation in which someone who is not considered within "epic level" play is now able to possibly have a 38 AC. The Tarrasque would have to roll a 19 or 20 to hit this character. Even if the tarrasque hits you, the tarrasque is then taking 20 radiant damage as well with the way you have worded this.
I appreciate that it requires concentration, however, concentration only matters if you're getting hit - which is exactly what this spell makes so unlikely.
I like the concept, I just think that it needs to be reigned in a bit to be more in line with other similar spells. [Tooltip Not Found] and [Tooltip Not Found] are good places to jump off from in terms of figuring out the balance of it.

Posted Jan 30, 2020Really like the idea but a bit powerful for First level. I agree with Zalamander.

Posted Dec 17, 2022Hmm, sounds like a pretty neat concept! I agree with the others that this should probably be a high level spell, and the updating is a bit busted, especially since you gain a higher PB as you level up anyways. Honestly, I'd recommend you take out the part about the double damage (it's commonly understood these creatures take double damage anyways), up the level of the spell to about 2nd or 3rd level, and DON'T give it an update option.
On the other hand, I've been looking for ideas for a cleric-themed magic item homebrew for a while now and I may just copy this idea for a magic armor set that gives you these effects as a bonus action for a minute with a certain number of charges per day (i guess think shield spell in armor form + damage if they do manage to hit you), or something to that effect. I won't make it public, or if I do, I'll be sure to credit you for the idea.
