Up to ten berries appear in your hand and are infused with magic for the duration. A creature can use its action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 hit point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.
The berries lose their potency if they have not been consumed within 24 hours of the casting of this spell.
* - (a sprig of mistletoe)
Can this spell be upcast?
Bananas are a type of berry
Won't the pies lose their potency after 24 hours? Or is he allowing the Goodberry Sprout to make goodberries that don't lose their potency?
I dont know why Sage Advice says that Deciple of life affects goodberries, when the wording of the Feature clearly says that it does not, since the casting of the Spell doesnt recover and Hit Points...
I've finally done it. I have made the best healing potion ever. the average hand has an area of 13.3 inches. and if ten berries pop up in one hand then we can say that a good berry is 1.33 inches in area, if you juice that it is a pretty small amount. so you can just cram a Buch in a potion to make the best potion ever. imagine just holding a victory party with a fresh casket of this stuff, it heals you and your at a victory party. so many possibilities
it is so they work in antimagic and cannot be dispelled
A 1st level human life cleric can get this spell with the Magic Initiate feat, regardless each berry is healing 1+2+ the spell level, that's 4 HP per berry for a total of 40 HP from a 1st level spell slot. The berries also retain their potency for 24 hours, so before you go to bed, if you have a 1st level spell slot, you can cast Goodberry and they'll still be good for 16 hours, so that's 40 HP for free. If you do decide to multiclass into druid, you can use the Moon Sickle from Tasha's, allowing you to roll a d4 and add it to the calculation. So a 2nd level character with an uncommon magic item can, effectively without using a spell slot, heal 65 HP on average outside of combat, that's on the same power level as the heal spell (6th level). Goodberry is more than good
This spell upsets way too many DMs who don't know how to deal with it. Allow me to give a few suggestions.
finally the perfect answer to a dragon society's food problem
I homebrewed a version that doesn't satiate hunger or thirst - despite being sufficiently nourished and hydrated to stay alive. So it would still feel like starving to death without ever being malnourished which would ultimately preserve the need for agriculture, cooking, etc.
The materials for transmutation are also constricted to a magical item and have a daily limit. So, someone with an item that can do this could prevent death by starvation on a small scale, but never end the need for food entirely. Certainly though, wide access to this spell would change economy and social structure. Even the HB version I described would drastically change warfare if it was available to armies.
I think it's just misinterpreted phrasing, I'm pretty sure the magic lingers for 24 hours, and the berries would lose their potency as the magic fades after those 24 hours
Question: "enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day". So does this mean that if a character were to consume more than one berry, they would need to roll a constitution save, as they are consuming more than a day's worth of food in one sitting? My DM is implying that is the case, but it doesn't fall in line with everything else Ive read about this spell...
they are grape sized
So Potions of Healing are really just Goodberry Juice?
Looks like a mistake, the duration is 24 hours, not "instantaneous"
However, that's because the spell is done as soon as its transformed 10 berries - the berries last for 24 hours, not the spell
I doubt you'd be able to eat a watermelon as an action. Maybe like plum sized.
No lol. That is completely ridiculous. Unless he gave your character the curse of 'Rapid onset Diabetes' and then say that good berries are shoved full of carbs. I am guessing he just doesn't like the spell?
It doesn't say cast it says "use". Big difference. When you USE a spell to heal. You are still USING the good berry spell heal. If it said cast then you would be correct but it does not.
Hydration is definitely nourishment. It is considered an essential Nutrient.
So are pumpkins lol.
