Monk
Base Class: Monk

Your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of long blade weapons not traditionally available to monks.

Way of the Long Blade

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of weapons not traditionally available to monks. You gain the following benefits:

• Long Blade Weapons. Choose any one melee weapon to be your long blade weapon. You gain proficiency with this weapon if you don't already have it. The chosen weapon is a monk weapon for you and you can choose to use your martial arts damage in place of the weapons normal damage. If the weapon you choose has the heavy property, you lose the ability to use your Dexterity on attack and damage rolls for this monk weapon. Many of this tradition’s features work only with your long blade weapon. When you reach 6th, 11th, and 17th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon – to be a long blade weapon for you, following the criteria above. Note: The Monk Glaive (naginata) is the preferred option for this subclass. Martial, (lacking the heavy property), two-handed, reach, 1d8 slashing.

• Agile Step. You have become adept at gauging distance and using your reach to open up opportunities, allowing you to step in and out of danger. When you use the Attack action with your long blade weapon, your unarmed strikes have a range of 10 feet until the end of your turn. Note: These attacks do not provoke attacks of opportunity. Mechanically the unarmed strikes have a range of 10’, thematically the character is shooting in to make their unarmed strike and then stepping back to their original location.

One with the Blade

At 6th level, you extend your ki into your long blade weapon, granting you the following benefits.

Magic Long blade Weapon. Your attacks with your long blade weapon count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Deft Strike. When you hit a target with a long blade weapon, you can spend 1 ki point to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die. You can use this feature only once on each of your turns.

Epicenter of Fury

Beginning at 11th level, while wielding your long blade weapon, you can take a number of reactions each round equal to your Proficiency modifier, at the cost of 1 ki point per attack.

Sweeping Cleave

As an action on your turn, you can make one long blade weapon attack against all creatures within melee range. A separate attack roll is made for each target. You can use your Deft Strike on any number of these targets at the cost off 1 Ki point per target. For each creature you reduced to 0 hit points during this turn, you regain 1 ki point.
