Monks of the Way of Darkness follow a tradition that seeks to understand the darkness of not only other worlds but also themselves. These monks might be called dark messengers, formless assassins or dark terrors. They might serve as temple guards, assassins or make up small teams of commandos to protect their lands, usually a dark forest, jungle or bog.

 

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special study and connection to the darkness leads you to aquire new skills. Also, those who follow this path spend so much time surrounding themselves in darkness they learn to find their way through it.

• Two skills or tool proficiencies of your choosing

• 20ft Blindsight

 

Dark Gifts

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn to manipulate darkness with your ki. You can spend ki points and a bonus action to cast the following spells, no v/s/m and no concentration needed.

• Darkness (2 ki distance 10ft)

• Shadow blade (2 ki)

• Hand In The Darkness; Up to your WIS mod times a day you can touch a creature with 0hp peering into the darkness and bringing them back from the brink, stabilizing it with 1hp + proficiency (bonus action)

Additionally at level 6 you can replace one of your Flurry of Blows with one of your dark gifts and at level 11 you can replace two of your Flurry of Blows with your dark gifts.

 

Hunger Of The Void

At 6th level, you can replace one of your Flurry of Blows with one of your Dark Gifts and you gain the following Dark Gifts.

• When in your area of darkness you can send your ki out into the void, imposing disadvantage on saving throws to creatures you choose in that darkness for 1 ki each

 

HUNGER OF THE VOID 

• (Hunger of Hadar 3 ki with the following changes) You open a portal to one of the realms of darkness you are connected to. In your area of darkness the air becomes thick, muggy and putrid, and some unknown creatures can be heard growling and moving around as if stalking their prey. The gateway creates a warp in the fabric of space, the area is difficult terrain. Any creature that starts its turn in this area must make a Con save (DC= 8 + Wis mod + proficiency) or fall prone gasping and vomiting. Any creature that ends its turn inside this area is accosted by some unknown creature taking 2d6 necrotic damage and are forced to make a Str save (DC= 8 + Wis mod + proficiency, if already prone they automatically fail) taking an additional 2d6 acid damage while something chews at their lower extremities before scurrying away. You are unaffected by the dangers of this area.

• Freinds in dark places; Give your allies protection against the dangers of this area (1 ki each)

 

Dark Augmentation

After spending so much time entangling your ki with the realms of darkness you have discovered how to even greater harness it for your self.

• When you use your Flurry of Blows you can replace two of them with your Dark Gifts

• When you're in an area of your darkness you can add one roll of your martial arts die to a save, attack or damage roll once per turn. At 17th level this changes to two rolls of your martial arts die once per turn.

• When you use your ki to summon your Shadow Blade the duration is now 5 minutes

• Now when you use your Hand in the Darkness ability you can stabilize a creature with 0hp and bring them back with 1hp + proficiency + WIS modifier and you can end either one disease or one condition afflicting it. The condition can be blinded, deafened, paralyzed, or poisoned.

 

Field of Darkness

• For 8 ki points you bring forth a 60ft diameter sphere of darkness (distance10ft) , additionally you can touch up to 6 willing creatures and give them 60ft of magical darkvision, advantage on saving throws and protection from your version of Hunger of Hadar for 2 ki each. In addition, when you use your Hunger of the Void the duration is now 2 minutes and your protections from this class granted by your Friends in Dark Places feature last while in an area of your darkness.

• Now you can add two rolls of your martial arts die to a save, attack or damage roll once per turn while you are in an area of your darkness.
