Base Class: Bard
This merchant Bard is a pet class that focuses on using currency (standard gold and otherwise) as a source for its features. As a Bard from the College of Coin, you will need to constantly be seeking gold and wisely using your Daffodils to best capitalize on your class features. You will use your features to support your team and mainly your hired help to provide effective contributions to your party. This subclass is also equipped with an optional feature for flavor or resource starved campaigns so that the bard may more effectively generate and maintain gold.
Optional 3rd Level Feature: Gilded Heart: Your mercantile training and guild connections have taught you how to make the most of your money. Wherever currency is found, you find 20% more than everybody else. Wherever goods are sold, you may haggle at advantage. The quality of any discounts or trades are at the DM's discretion.
Golden-Tongued
3rd-level College of Coin
You become part of the College of Coin. As a member of the guild, the college provides you with a magical bag that fills with golden coins known as "Daffodils." You receive a number of Daffodils equal to your charisma modifier (a minimum of one). These Daffodils are replenished once per dawn. These coins depict the goddess Waukeen on one side and a bouquet of Daffodils on the other. Any number of them can be sold to a guild representative who will appear once per day. The value of the Daffodils is determined by the DM. If your bag is stolen, a guild representative can replace it once per day. You may only have one bag and you may only have a number of Daffodils equal to your charisma modifier (a minimum of one). If you ever have more than this amount, the excess disappears into a golden dust.
In addition, when you are attempting to persuade or deceive a creature, you may spend 1 Daffodil and roll your bardic inspiration dice (without using a charge of your bardic inspiration feature) before or after you know the results. You may then apply that to your ability check.
Hired Help
3rd-level College of Coin feature
You gain a humanoid companion that accompanies you on your adventures and is trained to fight alongside you. Choose a humanoid that is no larger than Medium and that has a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower. Add your proficiency bonus to the humanoid AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals the hit point number in its stat block or four times your bard level, whichever is higher. Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points.
The humanoid obeys your commands as best as it can, as long as you pay it an amount of gold, determined by the DM, once per dawn. It takes its turn on your initiative. On your turn, you can verbally command the humanoid where to move (no action required by you). You can use your action to verbally command it to take the Attack action (a single weapon attack) or to cast a spell. You may use your bonus action to command the creature to perform the Dash, Hide, Disengage, or Help action. If you don't issue a command, the humanoid takes the Dodge action. If you are incapacitated or absent, the humanoid acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself or otherwise following your previous instructions. The humanoid never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.
While outside of combat, you may pay the humanoid additional gold or Dafodil(s) to provide you the help action on ability checks that it has proficiency in.
If the humanoid is not paid at dawn, it leaves you. If it leaves or dies, you can obtain a new companion by spending 8 hours searching a town, city, village, or camp for another humanoid that meets the requirements. The DM decides what humanoids are accessible to you based on your environment.
Your humanoid companion cannot equip magical items and their spell slots recharge on a long rest.
Remuneration
3rd-level College of Coin feature
When you use your action to command your companion, from your "Hired Help" feature, you may also spend a Daffodil and provide your hired help with Bardic Inspiration (without using a charge of your Bardic Inspiration feature).
Promotion
6th-level College of Coin feature
When you reach the 6th level, the companion from your "Hired Help" feature may now be up to 1/2 CR. When you command your companion to take the attack action or to cast a spell, you may also make a single weapon attack or cast a single cantrip as part of that action. In addition, your companion's attacks now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks.
Gleaming Inspiration
6th-level College of Coin feature
When you inspire your companion from your "Hired Help" feature (using either your Bardic Inspiration or Remuneration feature), your companion may add the result to their damage or healing done on a successful roll.
Employee of the Month
14th-level College of Coin feature
The companion from your "Hired Help" feature may now be up to 1 CR and they may now make up to two weapon attacks or take the multiattack action if they have that action.
In addition, when you inspire your companion, using either your Bardic inspiration or Remuneration feature, both of you, and allies who are within 15 feet of either of you may roll 1d4 when they make an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check, and add that number to their roll. On a successful roll, they may add the result to their damage or healing done. This effect does not stack.
Inspiration Deficit
14th-level College of Coin Feature
You've mastered how to use the promise of money to motivate (even when you have none). You may use your "Remuneration" feature a number of times equal to your charisma modifier (a minimum of once) even if you have no uses of the feature left. The next time your Daffodils are replenished, your hired help claims a number of Daffodils equal to the number of times this feature was used. If you refuse, the Daffodils disappear into a golden dust and your companion may turn hostile.

Posted Feb 2, 2023Love this class, I always wish more games would allow merchant classes, and this is a really well-built one for DnD. Looking forward to a campaign of non-stop bartering.
