Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Your magic manifests in smaller, but more powerful, bursts of energy.

Channeling Magic

You lack the discipline of a practiced caster, instead relying on the raw power and intuition of manipulating magics around you.  You gain spell slots at half speed, but you are able to cast more powerful lower level spells.

At sufficient levels in this class, your Sorcerer spells and cantrips are considered Channeled.  Channeled spells can be cast without expending a spell slot, can be modified by Metamagic without expending sorcery points, and can be upcast to your highest level of Channeled spell at no cost.  You lose all Sorcerer spell slots for spell levels that are considered Channeled.

  • At 3rd level in this class, your cantrips are Channeled.
  • At 6th level in this class, your 1st level spells are Channeled.
  • At 10th level in this class, your 2nd level spells are Channeled.
  • At 14th level in this class, your 3rd level spells are Channeled.
  • At 18th level in this class, your 4th level spells are Channeled.

Channeled Defenses

You can use your reaction to focus the ambient magics into a defensive barrier.  Any incoming damage is reduced by a flat value equal to your proficiency bonus.  This reduction applies to the full amount of incoming damage, before any other damage mitigation affects, such as resistances, are applied.  This reduction is applied per hit taken.  This effect lasts until the beginning of your next turn.

You can use this ability once per short rest.  You can expend 2 sorcery points to use this ability again.

Channeled Focus

Starting at 6th level, your mastery of the ambient magic has allowed you to manifest changes to your physical skills and abilities.  You may spend a sorcery point to gain proficiency on your next Constitution, Dexterity, or Strength saving throw or skill check.  If you already have proficiency, then your proficiency bonus is doubled.

Empowered Channeling

Starting at 14th level, you can increase the power of your Channeled spells and cantrips.

  • When you cast a Sorcerer cantrip or spell, you can apply an additional Metamagic to the spell.
  • Doing so consumes a number of Sorcery Points equal to the level of the spell.  (Cantrips do not consume additional Sorcery Points.)
  • You may choose to apply the same Metamagic option to the original spell, which increases the factor of the effect. For example, Twinned Spell would instead create three total copies, and Distant Spell would multiply the range by 3.

You may also choose to Upcast that spell, casting it as though you used a higher level spell slot, up to 9th level.  For each Upcast level, you take 1d12 force damage immediately after you cast it.  This damage ignores Resistance and Immunity, and cannot be reduced in any way.

Channeled Aura

Starting at 18th level, your Channeled Defenses also affect adjacent allies.
