ENETS OF THE UNDEAD

Mastery. Life and Death are cosmic forces to be harnessed.

All Will Serve. Strike down those who oppose you. Raise them to fight in your army. Discarded remains, bones, and corpses are yours to reanimate. Do not defile those laid to rest.

Calm of the Dead. Embrace the calm of the dead, that you might better pursue your mission. Passion is the enemy of duty.

Channel Divinity

Create Undead. As an action, the paladin channels divine energy into a corpse or pile of bones of a medium or small sized creature they can see within 30 feet, raising a skeletal minion of corresponding size to serve the paladin indefinitely.

  • The skeleton raised uses the stats of the Skeleton except they have a Strength of 16
  • The skeleton raised will be of the same alignment as the Paladin who raised it.
  • You can maintain control over 1 Skeleton Warrior for every four levels of Paladin (minimum of 1).
  • For Turning purposes, the CR of these Skeletons is 1/4 of your levels in Paladin, rounded down.

On each of your turns, you can use a bonus action to mentally command any undead under your control if the creature is within 60 feet of you (if you control multiple creatures, you can command any or all of them at the same time, issuing the same command to each one). You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If you issue no commands, the creature only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, the creature continues to follow it until its task is complete.

Deaths Grip: As an action you can attempt to telekinetically pull a creature with 60 feet of you that is large or smaller towards you. The target must succeed a Strength save to resist this or be pulled towards the nearest unoccupied space with 5 feet of you. A friendly creature can chose to fail this save.

Alternatively, you can choose to lift a creature within 60 feet of yourself 30 feet into the air. The target must succeed on a Strength save or be suspended 30 feet in the air for 1 minute. While suspended, the target is considered grappled and can repeat the save at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success and gently floating to the ground.

Aura of the Damned

Starting at 7th level any friendly undead within 10 feet of the paladin gains a bonus to damage rolls equal to the paladin’s Charisma modifier (minimum of +1). A creature can benefit from this feature from only one paladin at a time.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Additionally, skeletons created by your Channel Divinity gain the following benefits:

  • Their maximum hit points are increased by a number equal to twice your paladin level.,
  • Your skeletons add your proficiency bonus to their attack rolls.
  • Your skeletons do not need to be inside your aura to gain its damage bonus.

Undead Resilience

At 15th level, the death knight gains the following benefits:

  • You no longer age, and are immune to all aging effects.
  • You gain resistance to necrotic damage and immunity poison and the poisoned condition.

Additionally, skeletons raised by your Channel Divinity gain the following benefits:

  • Your skeletons lose their bludgeoning vulnerability, taking normal damage instead of double.
  • When a skeleton wielding a melee weapon take damage from a creature within 5 feet of it, it can use it's reaction to reduce the incoming damage by 1d4 +3, to a minimum of 0 damage.
  • When a skeleton wielding a ranged weapon hits an attack roll, the target takes an extra 1d4 necrotic damage.

Undead Thrall

Starting at 20th Level, your will over the negative energy of necromancy allows you to adopt your own undead servant. As a 1 hour ritual you may attempt raise a dead creature who’s Challenge Rating is no greater than 1/4th your paladin level and isn’t an Undead or Construct. The creature must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be raised as a thrall until it dies. A thrall that is raised has its creature type changed to undead, and cannot be raised again if slain.

A thrall created by this feature adds your paladin level to its maximum hit points, and half your proficiency bonus to its attack rolls.

If you raise another thrall, your current one immediately dies and is reduced to a pile of fine dust.
