Base Class: Artificer
The Artisan wants to dedicate themself to a specific artform or craftsmanship. Many of the world's most famous painters, smiths and weavers subconsciously channeled their magic into their creations.
Only a few became aware of their magical attunement and even fewer would become true Master Artisans when they achieved immortality through the legacy of their Magnum Opus: the creation of a Legendary Item.
Level 3: Artisanal Specialization
You dedicate yourself to a specific artform or craftsmanship.
You gain the following benefits.
Tool Specialization. You become proficient with a type of Artisan’s Tools of your choice from among: Calligrapher's Supplies, Carpenter's Tools, Cobbler's Tools, Glassblower's Tools, Hatter's Tools, Jeweler's Tools, Leatherworker's Tools, Mason's Tools, Painter's Supplies, Potter's Tools, Smith's Tools, Tattooist's Tools, Weaver's Tools or Woodcarver's Tools.
The chosen Artisan's Tool is your tool specialization. If you already had this proficiency from an earlier choice (such as your background or class), you may reassign that earlier proficiency to a different set of Artisan's Tools of your choice.
Note 1: Remember that with any tool you are proficient in, you may add your Proficiency Bonus to any ability check you make that uses the tool. If you have proficiency in a skill that’s used with that check, you have Advantage on the check too.
Note 2: Excluded from this list are Alchemist’s supplies, Brewer's Supplies, Cartographer's Tools and Cook's Utensils as they don't benefit from this subclass and have their own thematically fitting subclasses.
Spark of Creativity. As an action, you may create an item from your Tool Specialization's item list for which you qualify. If you do, you don it and/or attune yourself to it, and the previous item created using this feature vanishes. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Tool Specialization
Tool Specialization (Other)
Choose this option if your Artisan's Tool proficiency is not on D&D Beyond, then add it manually.
Level 5: Artisanal Expertise
Your dedication to your artform or craftsmanship causes you to be exceptionally good at channeling magic into the items you create. You think up blueprints in your dreams, and working at your art feels like dreaming.
Expertise. You become proficient in two skills.
Then, choose two skills in which you are proficient. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses your proficiency with your Tool Specialization or with either of the two skills you chose this way.
Specialization's Boon. You may possess one Magic Item Plan of a higher tier than your current qualification would allow, as long as that Magic Item Plan is on your Tool Specialization's item list.
Example: An 11th level Cobbler Artificer may possess one Magic Item Plan from among shoes found on the Artificer Level 14+ tier item plan.
Level 9: Artisanal Devotion
You've developed a favored type of craft, which allows you to unconsciously imbue your craftsmanship with mythical qualities.
Choose one of the following favored types of craft.
Art
Your skill modifier is added to Intelligence checks made by another creature pertaining to the subject (a person, historical event, or other subject) depicted by an item or construct you created, as long as they actively examine that item or construct.
Attire
When you create a piece of clothing or armor using Replicate Magic Item, you may imbue it with resistance to a damage type. Its wearer may attune to it (in addition to any regular attunement it may require) to gain that resistance.
Homes
Whenever you take a long rest in a safe location with furniture you created or in a dwelling of your make, you gain benefits as if Heroes' Feast were cast on you: You are cured of all diseases and poison, become immune to poison and being frightened, and make all Wisdom saving throws with advantage. Your hit point maximum also increases by 2d10, and you gain the same number of hit points. These benefits last for 24 hours. You may extend this effect to another willing creature for each of your pieces of furniture in the dwelling, or for each room you built into your dwelling, to a maximum of 12.
Trinkets
When you create a non-armor item of Uncommon rarity or lower using Replicate Magic Item, you may create an additional copy of it that does not count towards your maximum number of created magic items. If either item is destroyed or vanishes, the other vanishes immediately. Once per long rest, the wearer of the original can cast Sending, targeting the wearer of the copy.
Vehicles
Creatures piloting a vehicle you created have proficiency in the relevant vehicle tool or skill to control it, and their proficiency bonus is doubled for it.
Level 15: Artisanal Mastery
You've touched mastery of your artform or craftsmanship. From now on, your creations will leave tales of awe and woe in their trails. You wonder how long you will be remembered after you are gone, and by which of your creations.
You gain access to the Artificer Level 18+ tier of Magic Item Plans.
This tier includes any Very Rare Item that isn’t cursed. Each Magic Item Plan of this tier must select a different item.
Until you reach 18th level, Specialization's Boon grants you one plan from this tier. At 18th level, you gain full access to the tier, and Specialization's Boon instead grants you one Magic Item Plan of a Legendary Item (from your Tool Specialization's list). An item created from this plan does not vanish upon your death.

Posted Oct 4, 2026Your Tool Specialization's item list is something that can be created from scratch with or by your DM, but I also made these (near-)complete item lists for each Tool Specialization (which you can use as is or as a base) that I posted on GMBinder due to their size.
