Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Samurai begin their profession in service to a lord or master. When that service ends the Samurai has three options: find another master to serve, commit ritual suicide, or dishonor themselves and leave in poverty and disgrace with nothing but their weapon and the clothes on their back.

Most Ronin become wandering vagrants looking for trouble and libation. Some become peasant workers. Some continue the warrior profession as mercenaries, hired goons, or seek the life of an adventurer. The Ronin subclass is about these masterless warriors struggling to survive in a dangerous and unforgiving world.

The Shinobi Tradition emphasizes guile, using any means necessary to gain an advantage before combat begins. Shinobi are also frequently employed as spies.

Disgraced

The word Ronin means "wave man", or one who is adrift, a vagrant. Upon taking the Ronin subclass you are looked down upon by everyone, including other Ronin. As such you have disadvantage on Persuasion attempts you initiate, but have learned to more effectively intimidate and deceive to get what you want. You have a +2 bonus to Deception and Intimidation checks.

Unarmored Defense

Upon losing your station in society and becoming a Ronin, you learned to survive with little protection from the environment. While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

Minor Illusion

You can cast Minor Illusion.

Skills of the Trade

The practitioners of the Shinobi tradition spend extra time learning non-combat skills they can use to infiltrate as a trades person or to sneak into position. Choose two skill or tool proficiencies.

Jump

You know the Jump spell and may cast it once per short rest.

Sudden Escape

As a bonus action you throw an egg shaped object at your feet. In a puff of smoke, you teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see. You may immediately use Stealth to hide or sneak away. If you do not have the Stealth skill or do not wish to use it you may move or dash instead. Alternatively you may use the smoke bomb while reappearing.

A smoke bomb detonating withing 5 feet of an enemy who can see it causes them to make a Wisdom save or be Surprised. The DC for the save is 8 + your Intelligence modifier + your proficiency bonus.

You may perform Sudden Escape once per short rest.

Nerve Strike

As a bonus action make a special unarmed attack against a humanoid. Do not roll to hit. Instead of taking damage the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Constitution saving throw to end the effect. The DC for the save is 8 + your Intelligence modifier + your proficiency bonus.

Targets that are immune to bludgeoning damage are immune to Nerve Strike. Target resistant to bludgeoning damage have advantage on the saving throw.

Trade Expert

The experienced Shinobi is no mere practitioner of their art. Choose a skill and a tool with which you have become an expert.

Mirror Image

Once per long rest you can cast Mirror Image.

Improved Critical

Your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Mislead

Once per long rest you can cast Mislead.
