Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The Monarch of Shadows combines high martial mastery from the fighters with an innate ability with dark magic. The Monarchs of Shadows make use of their deadly martial prowess and obscure arcane capacities to fight and destroy their enemies. Although their unique abilities shine when dealing with the fallen enemies, as they extract their dark essence to create an army of creatures made of shadows that will follow their commands without any bit of hesitation.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you augment your martial prowess with the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting for the sorcerer and the Spells Listing for the sorcerer, wizard and warlock spell list.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the sorcerer, wizard and warlock spell list. You learn an additional cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Monarch of Shadows Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast shield using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level sorcerer, wizard or warlock spells of your choice.

The Spells Known column of the Monarch of Shadows Spellcasting table shows when you learn more spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn every three levels must be of the necromancy school.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the spells you know with another spell of your choice from the sorcerer, wizard or warlock spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots and can be of any school, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained every three levels, in which case must be from the necromancy school of magic.

Spellcasting Ability

Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your spells, since you learn your spells through study, memorization and the magical surge flowing inside you. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for any spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Shadow Consumption

At 3rd level, you gain the ability to detect and manipulate the dark essence of the fallen creatures, creating shadow beings. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest. The creature must be within your reach throughout the ritual, at the conclusion of which you raise your hand and create a Shadow Servant.

The stats of the creature are replaced with new stats for the Shadow Servant, only retaining the creature's type along with the Undead type. Its appearance is that of a fully armored knight composed by shadows, emanating a bright blue glow in some parts of its body. The stats are as follows:

Shadow Servant
Medium Humanoid, neutral
Armor Class 14 (Natural Armor)
Hit Points 22 (2d10 + 8)
Speed 30 ft.
STR
12 (+1)
DEX
12 (+1)
CON
16 (+3)
INT
10 (0)
WIS
12 (+1)
CHA
10 (0)
Skills Perception +3
Damage Immunities Necrotic
Senses Passive Perception 13
Languages All the languages the player knows
Challenge 0 (0 XP)

Keen Senses. The Shadow Servant has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks.

Group Tactics. The Shadow Servant has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the Shadow Servants's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Actions

Multiattack. The Shadow Servant makes two attacks, one with its sword and one with its dagger.

Sword. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) force damage.

Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: +1 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) piercing damage. Once hit, the target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or gain the Bleeding condition for 2 rounds, dealing 4 damage at the start of the creature's turn.

You can store a number of Shadow Servants equal to your Fighter level + your Intelligence modifier, but you can only maintain summoned a number of servants equal to your Intelligence modifier. If you want to create another Shadow Servant you must get rid of a previous one (you can choose which). They always remain active, only returning to your shadow if their Hit Points drop to 0, you dismiss them with a Bonus Action or if you are incapacitated. You can summon them as a Bonus Action.
The CR of the creature must be below or equal half your Fighter level rounded down to properly create a Shadow Servant and you cannot convert legendary creatures into servants. You can turn any type of creature into a Shadow Servant.

The Shadow Servant obeys your commands as long as they are simple (attack, search, protect, etc.). It takes its turn on your initiative. On your turn, you can verbally or telepathically command the creature where to move (no action required by you). You can use your action to verbally command it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help action. If you don't issue a command, the servant takes the Attack action on any enemy within 5 feet. Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the Shadow Servant to take the Attack action.

If you are incapacitated or absent, the servant acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. It never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.

Presence of the Monarch

Beginning at 7th level, you gain proficiency in Intimidation checks, and when you have two or more Shadow Servants within 10 feet of you, gain advantage with the said checks.

At 15th level, you gain expertise with Intimidation, and depending on how many servants are near, you gain a bonus on your check:
-2 Shadow Servants: +1 bonus.
-3 Shadow Servants: +2 bonus.
-4 Shadow Servants: +3 bonus.

Shadow Recovery

At 10th level, you gain the ability to heal your Shadow Servants with dark magic before they are defeated. As an Reaction, you can fully restore the Hit Points for one of your Shadow Servants within 30 feet of you if their Hit Points are reduced to 0 or below. You can do this a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier per long rest.

At 18th level, the number of times per long rest are doubled.

Elite Army

Starting at 15th level, your Shadow Servants are strengthened thanks to the increase of your arcane power. You can now issue complex orders (guard a house in stealth, and attack any intruder that gets close to the bedroom), and decide the "type" of Shadow Servant when you create them: Shadow Infantry, Shadow Caster, Shadow Tanker, Shadow Scout, Shadow Assassin and Shadow Beast.

The number of the servants summoned at the same time now are doubled. Now it takes an Action to raise a Shadow Servant from a dead body within 30 feet.

The Monarch of the Shadows

Starting at 18th level, your mastery over the shadow arts is unparalleled. The CR of the creatures now can be equal or below your Fighter level and you can now decide whether to maintain the original creature as a Shadow Servant or create one type of the known servants.

Legendary creatures can now be turned into Shadow Servants, but you must roll a percentage to determine your succeess, depending on their CR:
-5 - 10: 30% or superior to succeed.
-11 - 15: 40% or superior to succeed.
-16 - 20: 50% or superior to succeed.

You can also turn only one creature with a CR of 21-24, but you must roll an 80% or higher in the d100 to successfully convert it into a Shadow Servant.
