Base Class: Paladin
Tenets of Liberty
The tenets of the Oath of Liberty are based on the idea that a person is not property, nor can their debts be structured to restrict their freedom.
Freedom. From despotic governments, foreign rule, captivity, and control. The individual has a right to their mind and their body.
Equal Protection. A person’s right to extend their arm in space ends at the beginning of another person’s nose.
Consequences. The free individual must take responsibility for their own actions. Liberty is not anarchy.
Property. What you work for is yours by natural right and belongs to you unless you voluntarily choose to bestow it to another, via gift or payment.
Oath Spells
You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Redemption Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.
Oath of Redemption Spells
| Paladin Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3rd | guiding bolt, sanctuary |
| 5th | detect thoughts, silence |
| 9th | counterspell, spirit guardians |
| 13th | freedom of movement, guardian of faith |
| 17th | dawn, seeming |
Channel Divinity
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.
Inspire the Timid. As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a prayer of fortitude, calling upon the power of your deity with your Channel Divinity. For 1 minute, each friendly creature that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you has advantage against being charmed and gains a number of temporary hit points equal to your paladin level.
Break the Chains. As a Bonus action, you can use your Channel Divinity to free others of their bindings. One target within 30 feet of you can be freed from any or all of the following conditions: Grappled, Paralyzed, Petrified, Restrained, or Stunned.
Taunt the Tyrant
Starting at 7th level, if an attacker misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to taunt them, delivering psychic damage equal to your spell attack modifier. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until completing a short or long rest.
Non-Aggression Defense
At 15th level, as an action, you imbue yourself with the spirit of freedom. For the next 10 minutes, you appear one size larger (e.g. medium to large), have advantage on Charisma-based checks and saves, and cannot be charmed or frightened.
Autonomous Rule
By 20th level, your defense of the individual against oppressive rule has spread far and wide. As a result, you can use your action to gain the following benefits for 1 hour:
- You have resistance to psychic damage.
- You can rally 1d8 humanoids (use Guard stats) to aid you in your cause.
- If another creature attempts to frighten you, it fails and they must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened by you.
Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
