Base Class: Bard
Bards who hail from the college of shields are all about protecting those they care for. Instead of raising swords or wands, they raise their shield. They study and have a deep appreciation for Abjuration magic, and have not only found a way to combine it with their bard abilities but have mastered it. Just the act of a Sheild bard arriving at the battlefield can be a game-changer.
Bonus Proficiencies
When you join the College of Shields at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with medium armor and shields.
You can use shields as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.
Fighting Style
At 3rd level, you adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can't take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if you later get to choose again.
- Interception. When a creature you can see hits a target, other than you, within 5 feet of you with an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + your proficiency bonus (to a minimum of 0 damage). You must be wielding a shield or a simple or martial weapon to use this reaction.
- Protection. When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.
Longevity
As a bonus action on your turn instead of giving your allies inspiration, you can give them temporary HP equal to a roll of your inspiration die plus your charisma modifier. You can use this on multiple allies at once and they stack with other temporary hit points but you can't cast it on a person who has temporary hp from this ability. You can use Longevity as long as you have bardic inspirations left.
Resting longevity
When allies short rest and you use a song of rest, any extra health they get from hit die can be converted to temporary hitpoints, waisting nothing.
Extra Abjuration
At 3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th, and 17th level you learn free Abjuration spells that don't affect your effect your known spells and are always prepared.
At 3rd level, you learn Shield and Shield of Faith.
At 5th level, You learn Counterspell and Magic Circle.
At 7th level, you learn Aura of Purity and Death Ward
At 11th level, you learn Globe of Invulnerability and Primordial Ward
And at 17th level, you learn Prismatic Wall and Invulnerability.
Bardic Aura of Protection
At 6th level, you learn Bardic Aura of Protection. When allies are within a 30-foot radius centered on you they get an AC bonus up to Charisma modifier minimum of 1, But you only have a limited amount to share. For example: If your Charisma mod is 4 and you have 4 allies, you can give all 4 allies a +1 to their AC, or 2 allies a +2, or give one ally a +1, and another a +3. you can move around the AC bonus however you see fit as a bonus action.
Advanced Bardic Aura of Protection
Starting at the 14th level, The range of Bardic Aura of Protection increases to a 60 foot radius centered on you. Also as an action on your turn, you can increase the power of aura. For 1 minute The AC bonus you can give is is Equal to double your charisma Modifier, a minimum of 2. For example: if your charisma modifier is +5 your AC bonus is +10. you can use this ability twice and get it back on a long rest.
