Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Temple of the Bison: Dedicated to protecting the endangered species, those at the temple help nurture and live amongst the flying creatures. Living amongst the creatures, you understand their ways, their connections, and what it takes to walk amongst such regal and loving creatures. With enough care and treatment, those at the Temple may one day have a bison of their own to call their companion.

A Bison's Heart

Beginning at 3rd level, you gain access to a companion; A Baby Bison to call your own. whilst only young, it grows with you, aiding you in your adventures, and amplifying your abilities to harmonise with the elements around you.

It's friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the Bison stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places.

In combat, the Bison shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the Bison can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge; it's first priority will be to take care of you, and if possible to take you to safety.

You gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action. This special attack is a ranged attack with a range of 20/60 feet. You are proficient with it, and you add your Wisdom modifier to its attack and damage rolls. Its damage is bludgeoning, and its damage die is a d6. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.

When you take the Attack action on your turn and use this special attack as part of it, you can spend 1 ki point to make the special attack twice as a bonus action.

When you gain the Extra Attack feature, this special attack can be used for any of the attacks you make as part of the Attack action.

In addition, Your Bison learns how to master it's own elements further, giving it the capabilities of flight. Your Bison companion gains a flight speed of 40ft, and can hover.

Spiritual Enhancement

As your journey continues, your bond with your bison only grows stronger; new skills learnt, new paths trodden, and new discoveries await you.

Beginning at 11th level, your connection with your Bison allows you to greater control the element of air; with the bison's aid, you can achieve new heights.

From 11th level onwards, you are always considered to be under the effects of the Jump and Feather Fall spells,  unless you choose not to be. In addition, once per long rest you can cast Freedom of Movement, targeting either yourself or your Bison. You can cast this again by spending 4 ki points.

Your Bison also gains the flyby trait;

Flyby: The Bison doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

Ally of the Bison Temple

As your journey reaches new heights, your connection to your Bison draws out it's fullest potential. Beginning at 17th level, Your Bison grows to large size, and gains resistance to non-magical piercing, bludgeoning and slashing damage.

Once per long rest you can spend an action harnessing the spiritual connection to your Bison. for one minute, Wind funnels around you, granting you the following:

  • A Flight speed of 40ft.
  • Ranged weapon attacks have disadvantage to hit you
  • The range of your Air slash attack increases to 60/150ft.
  • Once per turn, When you make an attack with a monk weapon or an unarmed strike, you can call to your Bison, allowing it to attack the same target with either it's Tail Slam or Air slash attack. (this does not require an action.)

You can activate this ability again by spending 8 ki points.
