Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Blademasters train for many long years to perfect their swordwork, although anyone who has actually earned one of the rare heron marked legendary blades can tell you that none ever truly master the forms. Rather, Blademasters consider themselves to be artists, moving through their forms in an unending, darkly beautiful dance of death. Their training represents a path towards inner calm and self reflection, not a lifeless collection of martial skills. A Blademaster worthy of the title knows that he cannot master his blade unless he has first mastered himself.

The Heron Spreads its Wings

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn sword forms and enhance them by using special dice called superiority dice.

Sword Forms. You learn four forms of your choice, which are detailed under “sword forms” below. Many forms enhance an attack in some way or adopt a different fighting style.

You learn two additional forms of your choice at 5th, 7th, 10th, and 15th level. Each time you learn new form, you can also replace one form you know with a different one.

Superiority Dice. You have six superiority dice, which are d8s. A superiority die is expended when you use it. You regain all of your expended superiority dice when you finish a short or long rest. These can be used to enhance any attack.

You gain another few superiority die at 7th level and one more at 15th level.

The Blademaster can adopt a form by sacrificing a bonus action. Each time a new form is adopted 1d8 is added to the damage roll of the first attack he makes that round. The form will last until the end of the encounter, or until they wish to change forms.

Student of War

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Know Your Enemy

Starting at 7th level, if you spend at least 1 minute observing or interacting with another creature outside combat, you can learn certain information about its capabilities compared to your own. The DM tells you if the creature is your equal, superior, or inferior in regard to two of the following characteristics of your choice:

  • Strength score
  • Dexterity score
  • Constitution score
  • Armor Class
  • Current hit points
  • Total class levels (if any)
  • Fighter class levels (if any)

Sword Forms

The swords forms are presented by the names passed down throughout the ages by the one who created the art.

Apple Blossoms in The Wind

While in this form the Blademaster can use the shove action as a bonus action, and if the target is Large or smaller, it must make a Strength saving throw. On failure, you push the target up to 15 ft. away from you.

Black Lance's Last Strike

While in this form, the blade master draws his weapon for an immediate strike to the neck. Add 2d6 damage to your first attack each round. If you miss on this attack, enemies have advantage in attacks against you until your next turn.

Black Pebbles on Snow

+2 to attack and damage rolls during a surprise round where the Blademaster has surprised his enemies.

Cat Crosses The Courtyard

Cat on The Hot Sand

By spending 5 feet of his movement in a feint, the Blademaster can force up to two enemies in melee range to expend their reactions on failed attack of opportunity. The enemy still rolls the attack, and only succeeds on a natural 20, but with only normal damage.

Courtier Taps His Fan

Goading Attack

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to goad the target into attacking you. You add the superiority die to the attack’s damage roll, and the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target has disadvantage on all attack rolls against targets other than you until the end of your next turn.

Lotus Closes Its Blossom

While in this form, attack rolls of 18, 19, and 20 are all considered critical hits

Menacing Attack

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to frighten the target. You add the superiority die to the attack’s damage roll, and the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

Oak Shakes Its Branches

The Blademaster uses the flat of his blade. Attacks made are non lethal and city guard would accept this as permissible in most situations.

Plucking The Low Hanging Apple

While in this form, any attack against a target who has lost over 50% of their hitpoints do an additional 1d8 damage.

Quick Toss

As a bonus action, you can expend one superiority die and make a ranged attack with a weapon that has the thrown property. You can draw the weapon as part of making this attack. If you hit, add the superiority die to the weapon’s damage roll.

Rain in High Wind

While in this form, you may half damage from a melee attack, done by an enemy you can see, once per round.

Sheathing The Sword

Ignoring the opponents weapon, the Blademaster waits to lunge. In this form the Blademaster does not attack. instead whenever he is attacked he may attack the enemy immediately. any attack that hits, him or his enemy's, rolls further attack rolls until they miss. Damage is calculated for each hit with modifiers only being added once.

Swallow Takes Flight

While in this form the Blademaster receives a +1 to their AC.

Sweeping Attack

When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to damage another creature with the same attack. Choose another creature within 5 feet of the original target and within your reach. If the original attack roll would hit the second creature, it takes damage equal to the number you roll on your superiority die. The damage is of the same type dealt by the original attack.

The Viper Flicks It's Tongue

When the Blademaster is within 5ft of an ally, they may roll melee attack rolls for any attacks that you miss.

The Wind Blows Over The Wall

While in this form, the Blademaster may forfeit her reaction each round to bolster his AC by +3. This must be declared by the end of his turn.

Threading The Needle

Beginning at 10th level the Blademaster can move to shift his form using a reaction instead of a bonus action during their turn. Two forms can be used at once once before the Blademaster takes a short rest.

Improved Combat Superiority

At 10th level, your superiority dice turn into d10s. At 18th level, they turn into d12s.

Relentless

Starting at 15th level, when you roll initiative and have no superiority dice remaining, you regain one superiority die.

Leopard In High Grass

Everytime you shift forms, add 1d10 to your next attack and damage rolls instead of just the 1d8 on attack rolls granted earlier in the class. This begins at level 15.

Kissing The Adder

From level 18, when the Blademaster rolls initiative, he may select one adversary. For the first round of combat the Blademaster is guaranteed to hit the creature, and natural rolls of 16+ are considered a critical hit. The Blademaster has his AC reduced to 8 for that round.

Improved Combat Superiority

At 18th level, your superiority dice turn into d12s.
