One thing I’d really like to see would be interactive maps where you could click on two locations, select a route, and get the approximate distance/travel time. Given my group’s need for detail, I’d use the hell out of this.
I just finished prepping a session, and looking up the distance between Neverwinter and Waterdeep gave me results ranging between 240-400 miles. I ended up having to print out a scaled map and break out the ruler. Two clicks could save me ink and having to do the maths :)
This would be a phenominal feature, but only for 5e Cannon. To be greedy, I would LOVE to be able to build a map on this...I guess I'll call it a Scale Map, and then be able to zoom in and play on a static version of the view in R20.
Insanely ambitous perhaps, but being able to keep scale in proportion would be amazing.
I would also like an interactive map for 5E. I would like to see notable landmarks labeled on the map but they show up only when you zoom in, so the map wouldn't be so cluttered when showing the whole world. Like how google maps works.
So, the FR Interactive Atlas can be purchased no where in retail anymore and goes for $75 or more on Ebay. I would gladly pay $100 for life or $50/year for a subscription to such a map service, presuming it got down to street level details for all the major cities and was updated when new content came out. You're leaving money on the table Wizards!
Oh and anyone who likes this idea, please up vote it above on OG post.
Cool request. I create interactive maps at work and, thought time consuming, it wouldn't be all that hard.
Sounds like a volunteer to me! Can I expect you'll have this coded and working somewhere in time for my next game session on Thursday? ;)
Actually - given the amount of groups that start off with the Mines of Phandelver, that's a lot of campaigns set in the Sword Coast. As CadmiumMisting posted there's a high res map available. I've even seen several versions with a hex grid overlayed.
A map with a gps where you can choose to travel by foot, horse, griffon, dragons, sky castles. That would be great. Adding pinned quests/events on map from campaigns. (like... you click the mouse on Night Stone and see the quest from the beginning of Storm King's thunder, also the next place will glow on map showing the next locations to go through the questiline with the time the party will spend on travel)

Is anyone currently working on this? I'm going to start work on it myself soon, but I'm starting at square one with little experience on how to actually use the Google API.
This isn't made by the people of D&D but it just got funded in a week on kickstarter and I think it look incredible and I am pumped to use it. http://www.dungeonfog.com/blog/
Even to a much lesser extent, instead of scalable maps have something in the order of:
"Here is the overall map of Barovia" *clicks on Castle Ravenloft location* "Here is the ground floor on the outside of the castle" *clicks on one of the entrances* "Here's the ground floor" *clicks on stairway to level X* "Here's level X"
etcetera...
Nothing too fancy, just plain pictures, but it would allow you to pull up up maps very easily.

I agree. I was just thinking about this just the other day.
It's completely doable with the google maps API. Just have to use the super high-res image from the Extra life campaign in 2015(?)

I'm picturing a fantasy Satnav. It would be in the style of a book - we could call it a Tometome.
No?
This whole suggestion here is a great idea though, I just fear the DBB staff have a long list of things already. Fingers crossed & an up-vote.

And maybe create and save your map pins/notes as part of the campaign? Hmmm.... might be a cool feature to think about.
