This is awful and on mobile pretty much unusable. Swiping between tabs was far better then having a bunch of buttons. The layout for the spells is really confusing too. It's too cluttered and I can no longer see all my spell slots, I have to select the level to see them individually.
It takes getting use to, but the number of remaining slots are shown numerically next to the spell level, like "1st (4)" and on the 1st level spell page you have boxes just for the relevant spell slots that can be used at that spell level. It's definitely different, but works well once you get to using it.
The biggest issue I had with the previous UI was there was A LOT of wasted space when not on iOS and there's even more now. Please can we have the option to drag boxes around to resize them. I find the text hard to read on a big monitor.
Look how difficult the heal and damage text is to read. Especially the grey text on grey background.
I hate having to zoom in on the web browser as it'll zoom all my other pages with it.
That is a VERY large monitor resolution you've got there. That size accounts for <2% of our total views on D&D Beyond. In other words, there aren't many people out there that will see the sheet like you do and we had to optimize closer to the middle of the range. We will see over time if we can make some accommodations for ultra resolutions. Keep you posted!
I can not for the life of me get my homebrews to work anymore, I cant get the resistance to show up anymore, advantage on saving throws, damage changes, unarmed attack changes, or really anything to show up.
Features I assumed were Included in the revamp (and I hope will be added in the future) :
Being able to add a custom Advantage on certain Saving Throw
Being able to choose a custom language in your e.g. background dropdown choice (instead of having to manually add one after the fact)
Being able to manually change the number of available spell slots
Being able to manually add spells that are above your current Spell Level
Being able to customize your own sheet, e.g. being able to move the 'attack' block to the front page instead of sth. else
For me, those are important points. Hope they will be added in the future.
The issue with some of this is that it would start becoming a system builder instead of a d&d management tool. While we're allowed a large amount of customization, the core has to stay in tact to keep it focused on its true intent. This may eventually evolve into a system builder, but for now its purpose is to be a d&d management tool.
That being said you do have very valid points. Their goal is to get users away from the character builder after character creation and have everything managed straight from the sheet. They have some of that in place now, like custom or additional languages, but they still have a couple of things still reliant upon the builder, such as level management.
They're going to have their hands busy for a while, but we'll see a steady stream of improvements.

That's my point. I want to be able to quick glance at my spell section and see how many spells I have of each really quickly. In a group with rotating DMs where I sometimes play and DM at the same time, as a cleric I see myself missing a lot that I would normally get from quick glances.
Thanks for taking time to break down your thought process. Just know my initial reaction is much as the original poster. I feel like from an ease of use stand point we’ve gone backwards a few steps. Hopefully with some tweaks it can improve or you can offer some options to have things organized like before.
I would love if you would consider adding the following metatags to the character sheet. This will allow us to add a character sheet to our Home Screen on Android or iOS, then when we open it from the homescreen it opens without the address bar and navigation (so more like an app than a website). I would enjoy having that extra real estate and not have the address bar bounce back into view after scrolling to the top of a page.
Overall I like the revamp, but I have some issues with it.
I'm not sure if this was an oversight or a deliberate omission, but Channel Divinity: Turn Undead isn't listed under the cleric class features at any level. Nor is it listed under the actions a cleric can take. Since it's one of the iconic things a cleric can do, I think it should be included in both places.
Exhaustion is listed as a static condition, with no options for adding or removing levels of exhaustion.
There are several confusing choices in abbreviations that I think could be clarified. Wild Shape CR and speed limitations could be updated in the listing with the boxes to tick, but are instead updated far below--updating the limitations where the boxes are located would be less confusing. In a similar vein, the Blood Hunter's Blood Maledict feature is worded very confusingly in the summary. The laconic version implies that you can use them two times at fifth level and six times at 20th level, though it is one and four respectively. I get that the number of blood curses you know is important, but what I as a reader see in that section is the site telling me how often I can use Blood Maledicts, and it's not correct.

Overall I agree with this. It should be in both of those places. You can however find it in the sidebar for the Channel Divinity class feature.

How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat On - Mod Hat Off
I print mine out, we don't sit around a table staring at our computer screens - only the GM and ONE of the players does (and that's because the player is a bard with spells). So now there's basically NO way to print this as a proper PDF if I'm seeing it right?
Glad I saved my prior versions before this change went live. This is garbage for anyone who wants to use them as a real paper tabletop page. :/ Sorry guys, this is a step backwards.
Give me the option to save as a pdf? I'll take it. But unless that comes back I won't bother trying to assemble any new characters with this.

Thanks for the tip. I don't think that's a good home for it under features, but it is there.
Something I forgot was that it might be useful to list ritual spells under Actions (Other). Since there isn't a section within Spells for them anymore, showing them in Actions might help players remember which spells are rituals at a glance.
I definitely like the new Proficiencies & Languages and Senses sections on desktop. However, I'm not a fan of the Combat/Actions/Spells/Equipment section.
What I liked about the previous character sheet on desktop was that I was able to view all of my character's spells at a single glance. Now with the new limited size of the spell section I can only view 4-5 spells without scrolling. I also do not like that there is no longer a dedicated ritual spell section and that ritual spells from a wizard's spell book that are not prepared are no longer shown. Similar to the spells section, I also do not like that I can only view 4-5 items in my character's equipment inventory at a time without scrolling. I would much prefer having the section take up more of the page to make more items visible. I much prefer the expandable list format that was used on desktop for inventory and spells previously.
That being said, I do like the feature of being able to search and filter my character's spells. I also like the increased size of the Features & Traits section compared to the previous desktop version, but just like the Spells and Equipment section I do wish it could be larger.
I wouldn't mind if the Combat/Action/Spells/Equipment section and the Features & Traits/Description/Notes section were combined so that when viewing one of those sections it would take up the entire vertical space of the desktop page.
I just ran through a character on a surface pro 3 in tablet mode. No matter the resolution, the quick-menu items need to be in the same order. It tripped me up having actions one way on my phone and completely different way on the tablet.

This is by far less changed than I expected.

It would be nice if in Conditions sidebar, each condition had a drop-down with its description. ie, like the spells do.

In tablet mode, I think that hit points would make more sense under the combat page.

The new character sheet is awesome, but in the process you seem to have broken some parts of the character builder :(
i can no longer select spells in the character builder, or set equipment to active.
its not a huge issue since both of these can be done in the character sheet. It’s just slightly annoying.
I would also like to see all my spell slots at a glance.
