yeah i know i hope they hire plenty of good dev that can help them because i must say i'm dying here i cant wait to get that new character creator/ sheet with container and followers etc..
what i would also like its with the container things .. its when you prepare a spell it can check if you have the proper material component in your equipment and if its there and have enough for the spell it allow you to prepare it and it move the material component in your pouch, the one with all the material you need for your prepared spell for the day but if you missing some material component on that spell you want to prepare then it wont let you prepare it.
If you dont have enough of those material component, on the spell component material list it show the missing in red and the one available in green ... so you know what material you need to buy later to cast those spell you use ...or want to use. i think it would be a great feature. i'm sure they can manage something out.
While interesting. I find that VERY video-game. There are so many more useful things that need to be done first. Add it to a list, sure, but I can't see something that fussy as having any sort of priority for a programmer's time. Sorry.
Hi - love D&D Beyond! 1000% excited for the Campaign Manager's future as I DM often, and my players and I love the character builder!
One question on the "Add Notes: Other" section of the character builder: most of the Notes sections are exporting as expected to the character sheet (Organizations, Allies, Enemies, Backstory), but the "Other" Notes section is not.
Is it bugged? Or could you please add a Force Display option to the character sheet export?
The "Other" Notes section is very versatile, serving a variety of different player preferences.
For example, one of my old school players likes to type up shorthand text summaries of his features/spells in his Word doc character sheet. In the DDB Character Builder, the best place for him to place these would be in the "Other" Notes section in DDB - at least for now while he gets comfortable with and explores DDB and the Character Builder.
I'm going to guess that I'm in the minority on this, but I actually like the current character sheet much better than the one that's coming. I like white space! I'm sure I'll live tho.

Sometimes, when you go to select an option on your character sheet (e.g. a skill arising from your background), it isn't available because, for example, you already chose that skill as a class skill. In that situation, the character sheet prevents you from selecting it again by leaving it off the list of skills. But that's confusing. You're not sure why is isn't listed if you have forgotten that you selected it earlier. A similar thing applies to spell selection.
I think it would be more clear for someone using the character builder if the unavailable skill/spell were still listed, but greyed out. That would tell the user that the spell really is there in the system (and not missing, for example, because it's in a supplement he didn't purchase), just not something he can select, given his current configuration.

I don't think a disabled list item will be any less confusing than a missing list item. After playing around with the builder a bit, you can easily figure out that if the proficiency isn't there, then it's because you already have it.

No, it's definitely less confusing because it tells you right away the option exists. The current implementation doesn't just fail to communicate that, you'd have to go to a different page of the wizard to find out where it's being used, change it; and go back to the original page to confirm it'll appear. I ended up looking at the same dropdown 3-4 times before I convinced myself the skill really wasn't there and it wasn't just me going over the options too quickly.
Games with a good controller config menu let you select a button even if it's already used. A good game will tell you it's already being used for <action> and ask if you want to swap the buttons or unchoose it from where it's being used.
Of course I also understand that the alternative would've taken longer to do.
Not sure if this is the right place - but the walk/speed for the Aasimar is showing 20 when the book has it as 30 when wearing plate w/ a min. 15 STR.
It's showing as 30 for me still after I equip the plate armour.
Odd. Hm. I'll try and figure out what else might be doing it, but as soon as I doff'd the armor and shield it put me back at 30. Not sure what else it thinks the penalty should come from.

If you have selected the variant rule for encumbrance, the speed drops by 10 feet if you are carrying or exceeding a weight of 5 times your Strength score.

i'm sorry that you find it VERY video-game. i think its something that could help ... its like auto calculation of encumbrance or other things that lots of people doesnt even use when playing. but my point was if you do containers thing think about most of the feature you will integrate now so later when you integrate them you dont have to redo the whole code
Little quality of life thing, would it be possible to have the equipment you add to your character during the character building process total up in terms of cost?

Thanks! I'll check on that. Edit: That was it. I learned something. Thanks!!

Encumbrance is a part of the game, though. Inventory management is deliberately open-ended:
Use common sense to determine whether more than one of a given kind of magic item can be worn. A character can’t normally wear more than one pair of footwear, one pair of gloves or gauntlets, one pair of bracers, one suit of armor, one item of headwear, and one cloak. You can make exceptions; a character might be able to wear a circlet under a helmet, for example, or be able to layer two cloaks.
I can't see a paper doll approach working well. Most slots would go unused, some slots might end up with multiple items, and things can get weird pretty fast with Wild Shape, lycanthropy, and races like tortles. Plus it'll give new players the impression that there's hard rules for what can go where.
Made a sun soul monk from SCAG using the half-elf (wood-elf) variant that give +5 speed. However the additional speed from unarmoured movement isn't being automatically added as they are being levelled.
Lastly it would be super cool for the radiant bolt attack to be automatically added underneath unarmed strike.

I wonder whether the people you responded to were talking about that, things like pack animals and bags of holding, spell components, or something else. I also wonder whether Koren was responding to what TiBBy thought he was responding to.
Use the Quote button, people.

I'd like to be able to add under Equipment - Personal Holdings and Equipment - Other Holding, the name of the thing in question + it's weight (to add for encumbrance purposes).
So, if the group defeats a Displacer Beast and want to skin it, "Displacer Beast Hide" weight "20 lbs"
Thanks,

Quote button? I might use it more if it didn't pull in 8 layers of irrelevant nested older quotes. Using it is a huge pain in the hindquarters.
For myself, i was definitely respondind to what TiBBy thought. I don't want video game functionality in a character sheet for my tabletop game. That's the problem, though, isn't it? Many, many users with different ideas of what they want and need out of DDB. Curse has a tough road to walk here, and I think they are doing a great job so far.

How is it video game related to ask when you prepare a spell for the day that there is an automatic check if you have the required material component to do so ? i mean how many time in a game a player want to do something and DM ask him OK But do yo have this or that to do what you want and after verification they dont ... i saw that very often... sure most of the hardcore experienced player think about all those stuff but not everyone. its not a major feature i agree ... i tought it could be a good thing to add while they working on countainer already .... seem like its something you dont need and its ok.
BTW it could be optional feature if you dont want or need it then you just chose to not activate it. like i said some people dont use every rules like using component for casting spell or use the weight etc... does it affect they way you are playing the game i doubt it
like you said so many people need so many different things and there is tons of stuff still to do here. The product is far from perfect and they work on it ... if they can get the most idea and maybe incorporate some of them then fine.
I'm sure not every idea will be chosen for multiple reason... some can be awsome idea but technicaly impossible to make or juste some idea that its important only for a few and it will be put aside till maybe more people need that or they have done so much that a dev have some free time ...lol. but saying its kida video game i dont understand... maybe its because i dont play much video game...

I like the ability to designate a spell as an attack. I assume that will be coming soon for spells that are race derived.
