As you can see in a recent announcement, the background section of the character builder has been revamped. Please, post here any issue or bug you find.
Dice seem to have been removed from all gaming proficiency sections for all backgrounds.
Do you have a link to a character I can review that has an example of this happening? I have a character with a Soldier background and I see Dice Set appearing as an option.

I see it again for soldier. :D It was gone, though - I swears it!
Trying to revert my choice from custom background back to available ones does nothing. I hit confirm but nothing happens. I'm using the standard step-by-step.

I see this thread is for feedback and not just bugs, so I'll crosspost my comment from the announcement thread here:
Could you make some sort of toggle option that makes it so that exotic languages require 2 free language slots? I.e., exotic languages count as two standard languages. Backgrounds normally grant up to two standard languages, but then the Haunted One background came out and granted an exotic language but no other language or tool proficiencies, showing that one exotic language could be allowed at the cost of not getting a second language or tool. I would like to set this restriction in my campaigns, maybe as a toggle option in the character builder like encumbrance and hit point increases are now.
The Haunted One background has been fixed/broken at the same time. The recent update has removed the second language slot, but it has also removed the second skill slot. Chris Perkins recently (july) clarified it here with the latest version of the background available from the WoTC website here

Can confirm Haunted One is back to one skill.

Looks like in the builder, Archaeologist gets the choice of carpenter's tools or navigator's tools even though the choice should be cartographer's tools or navigator's tools according to the backgrounds page.
Feature Request: if a language is already given by a race, allow a dropdown to pick a new one if also given by a background (see dwarven Clan Crafters, for example)
The City Watch's Investigator variant should let me exchange Athletics proficiency for Investigation proficiency. Since the revamp this isn't possible anymore.

We've updated Haunted One in the Builder to allow you to select two skills.

That it was able to only allow you to select one skill, though, means that the homebrew background creator will be more versatile than the current custom background creator, right?

Thank you kindly. I am now going to go make a Haunted One Tortle named Shell-Shock. I am thinking wizard with a focus on lightning/electric damage.

Would it make sense to choose a background BEFoRE choosing a class? I ask, because the background pre-determines some skills that you may have already chosen on the class page ... Not a big deal for me, but thinking of new users .

Fifth edition D&D went through a lengthy playtest cycle (years) before they finalised the published version of the Player's Handbook.
As part of that, they trialled various different orders of character generation with focus groups, to determine the "best" way to do it. D&D Beyond follows the same order that is used in the Player's Handbook for that reason.
I still find it odd myself, as I'm used to previous editions, where you generate stats first, then check what class you can play!
When customizing a background, can the option to include a standard equipment package from a standard background (like one already does with background features and characteristics) be added in eventually?
Or do we have to use make a whole new Homebrew Background for such a thing?
Looks like criminals can't be proficient with dice :(

I don't quite understand why it couldn't simply have been two listboxes for the two language or tool choices.
