I'm curious how connected or in touch this forum is with other D&D forums. There's lots of them out there. Are there lots posters here who check places like the D&D reddit, or are we an island to ourselves?
(If this is the wrong place to post this, I apologize. The label says this is where to post "discussion of everything to do with D&D ... that doesn't fit into other forums.")
I go wherever the wind takes me.... usually to a nice bed with a warm meal, but sometimes to the far reaches of the interweb.
I just started using D&D reddit. I had a bad view of reddit and really only started because certain designers and such use reddit.... Ironically I haven't seen those same designers posting here..... hmmm why is it that designers post elsewhere and not on the forum they are spending money to have?
I think there's an opportunity for this forum to become a significant home for D&D discussions as D&D Beyond itself releases more features and increases utility for D&D players everywhere. If I'm setting strategy for the community/moderation team here, it's that this forum becomes one of the top 3 D&D communities before the end of the year. There's a clear draw to bring folks in (all the tools and info on the site as it leaves beta), so there's a clear opportunity to build a great home for conversations.
That noted, I definitely keep track of a few subreddits and other D&D homes on the web. I check here daily, anticipating an uptick as each new feature set releases.
I don't like reddit in general. I use a few twitter hash tags to stay in contact with Dungeon Masters. I use facebook groups for local games and groups, plus the large D&D homebrew groups there. Google Plus I like to spy what people are doing there since it kinda aggregates various Google owned properties like Youtube and blogger.
I lurk here more than I thought I would. I would say it's the only real D&D forum I visit.

100% this. I've noticed a burgeoning community here and could see this becoming a great hub to replace what the WotC forums used to be.
Like you, I frequent a few D&D and DMing subreddits and check this forum regularly for updates. This is probably the most active I've ever been in a forum community.
I'm hoping as more people come here, some of the more active D&D gods (Crawford, Mearls, Perkins, Mercer, Satine, Colville, etc...) will make their way here (especially the actual WOTC employees).
For example, I think it would be awesome if this became the non-Twitter hub for Sage Advice

What makes you think that they haven't already? ; )
Mystery always lies beyond the curtain, you know...
I kinda got scared off reddit very quickly, in the d&d places at least. Miniature painting sub reddits have been nice if intimidating. I find myself checking this place out on the daily and found it purely by accident when I first felt the D&D flame rekindle. It never really died, but I haven't had a solid group since 2006. This place has just been a boon to me, I can ask my ridiculous questions and I don't feel ridiculous for asking them. I kind of hope this place continues to grow cause its just plain good.

What about the WotC maintained D&D Forums? That's where I'd expect them. It's been a long time since I was in the D&D forum scene.

I have no affiliation with the WotC D&D forums, and cannot comment about whom visits or the content thereof. Here on D&D Beyond, we attempt to create the best atmosphere available with comprehensive content in one place. Many have stated that they are very pleased with what has been developed so far, which has exceeded the returns of what are being offered elsewhere.
As you're back on the scene, I can only hope the same takes shape for you.

WotC forums were disbanded a few years ago. I have been told that WotC staff has plans to frequent these forums, and may have already... ;)
Oh that sucks. I wonder why they would do that. :(
Well while I'm here, is there a place here where I can request 3e or 4e content I was hoping to get updated to 5e? I don't see a 3e or 4e subforum, much less a OD&D or AD&D.

Well, I am pretty positive Colville hasn't, as he's usually pretty upfront about what he's doing; that and he has his own following on Reddit, so I don't see him moving here during the beta. Perkins is far too grandiose a mastermind to ever hide behind the proverbial curtain. He'd want us knowing that he was here and he'd probably have destroyed all of us by now... Though I could totally see Mercer/Satine hiding in the shadows manipulating us all.
Crawford and Mearls are wild cards... I think they are far too busy with real work stuff to bother with forums, but then again... who knows?

If you'd like, I could yell at you and tell you that "your" stupid so you feel more at home (aka the internet).
But, in all seriousness, I think everyone here (for the most part) is a DM and we all understand the plights of our behind-the-screen kin, so we're (again, for the most part) a lot more welcoming. The jerk DMs tend to already think they know everything, and thus typically avoid these types of places (at least for now...). And the moderators seem to put the kibosh on things fairly quickly if it seems to go too far negative.

Posting here is fine. :)
Personally, I read several D&D subreddits: /r/dndnext, /r/dnd, /r/dndmaps
