Maybe this question has been answered already, but i didn't read all seven pages of this thread...
Are these titles really just counting your overall posts or do some of them only apply for different categories?
As far as I can tell, just how many posts you have made. Who knows though, things could change.
I'm hoping we'll see some awarded by Staff for particularly excellent posts, and maybe ones tied to the number of likes on a particular post, or number of likes overall.

I'm tempted to agree with you Halaku, but at the end of the day a title is just a bit of fun. If they didn't allow your random/off-topic section posts to contribute toward titles then you run the risk of title-hunters clogging up the other sections with minimal-content posts.

That's a fair concern. Just thought I'd bring it up as an option.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion... but what if the code was written such that Adohand’s Kitchen posts didn't count for titles?
It would prevent people bombing the off-topic forum with minimal-content posts to get a new title the day it was released.
I'd agree. Throw-away posts shouldn't be included in main post count; When new members are interacting in the main boards, it would be nice to know who the actual contributors are without questioning the time spent spamming 'Off-Topic'.

I think it would be nice if new members interacting in the main boards were judging posts on the merit of their content, rather than on completely unrelated factors like post count, nifty title chosen, cool avatar, or screen name.
And maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think people that are new to forums default to believing that post count indicates anything more than number of posts made.

It's very easy to dress up reasons why it "doesn't matter," but presently, posters spam up a nonsense board to build post count. We can choose to believe that individuals with higher counts never cite that fact to throw around their weight, but it is untrue. Does it truly mean something? Of course not. Do people act as if it does? Sure do.
Members will be judging posts on their content - to think otherwise would be ludicrous. All the fancy things that you've cited "rather than" will also be judged upon, regardless of the worth you deem it. There are 74,000 registered members and they all think differently than each other.
...but if no one actually believes that post count = reason you should value the content of a post, other than the folks that try to leverage their own post count as some kind of proof of authority, why does it matter which posts are or are not counted?
Unless you think folks are going to be assuming that high post count equates to more important opinion or more "sway", there is no reason to dedicate any effort toward trying to make post count more difficult to inflate.
I've seen this before, and people who inflate their post counts aren't invested, and if they aren't invested, they won't stay. The problem will take care of itself.
What we collectively want as a community is for people to want to be here, and I hope that we are all laying the groundwork for that to be the case.
Just wanted to say that I've reached 600 posts, and I don't think there are any more titles incoming on this stage of the beta, at least. And, to relate to the current conversation more, it is true my post count is at least 19/20 made up of posts on a nonsense thread. BUT!!!! But!!!! I really don't have anything to say in defense of myself. The titles don't really make me want to stay here, it's all the cool people in Adohand's Kitchen (Yes, Hypefox, Firehawk2324, I'm talking to you) who make me want to stay. I do occasionally post useful stuff too, and it'll be easier for someone who's not even a software anything like me to help out in judging in Phase 2&3.
These titles bring back memories if AD&D. How many posts does it take to get to Arch-Mage? :-)

Adohand will not like that. It's how he gets his post count up.

You've yet to reach 1000 posts in Adohand's Kitchen. You sure there's no secret title? O.o
