My new friends. Although I have only seen one of you in action, Ira's display left no doubt that you must each be formidable in your own way. I want to impress on everyone that these bandits, as grevious or offensive as their deeds may have been, are still people. We don't know their story. I hope our encounter will not come to violence, but if it should, I ask each of you to swear you will do your utmost to not kill. These men may have families, or be driven to banditry by circumstances we do not know.
Despite Artin's almost comic enthusiasm earlier, you can tell that he is very serious. He looks at each of you in the eye, his gaze lingering especially longer and firmly on Boo.
Do I have your word?
(OOC It's my understanding a PC can choose to deal nonlethal damage when reducing a creature to 0 HP)

Invaih unsheathes his scimitar, and taps the flat of the blade with his two forefingers. "If it comes to blows, I may just slap them around a bit!" he declares with a smirk on his face.
(OOC - With hand-to-hand fighting or weapons, they can. DMs are split between two main rulings when it comes to magic; half allow non-lethal damage even with spells like burning hands, ruling that magic users have enough control over the Weave to spare their foes - or other similar reasoning. The other half depends on the type of spell; sleep will never be lethal, of course, but burning hands would burn the enemy to ashes, so can't be. We'll have to wait and see what ruling our DM decides on that front.)
Zaigrea balks, "No." And laughs. "If a man comes at me with a blade, I ain't gonna stop and think about what I'm gonna do to him." She thinks.
"Well, if they come begging and sayin' their daughters names I'm not gonna slit their throats I guess. Is that what ya mean?" Zaigrea says confusingly.
You get ready to start off, before you do, a pair of men walk past you, one of them says: "C'mere, you might wanna see this.". The men lead you to a place known as Kao Tailoring, a small crowd has gathered around it. You push through the crowd and see a piece of parchment tacked to a wall written in red text. Quiet murmurs pass through the throng, two women stare at it, palefaced and dumfound with shock.
If anyone wants to see Nia Kao again, i'd suggest bringing a ransom of 500 gp, or Nia will be dead by sunrise tomorrow and we will be back for more.
The blood hungers.
- Fedrir Tarrenclaw
At this point, Tristor Shieldcaster, mayor of Ambermoor walks up and rips the parchment off the wall, his expression going grim. "This doesn't look good. The Kao's have been a major part of our economy, and we can't lose even one of them." His gaze turns to your motley crew, "You five were planning on going to confront the bandits, right? We simply don't have enough money to pay the ransom and they will take more next. I want you guys to investigate for me, that last phrase unsettles me. If you can stop the bandits I can arrange a reward in for you. Can i count on you?"

"The hero sought to save the world.
"If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought.
But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away.
Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt."
The Blood Hungers... Every speculative thought that phrase sparked in Invaih's mind were thoughts he was afraid to consider. Ignoring the mayor -- for he couldn't care less about a reward and not needing any prompting to act on this -- Invaih rubbed his twin blades' finger guards pensively. Having camped in the woods last night, and having seen or heard nothing despite his superior nightvision and hearing, he thought it a good guess that the Tarrenclaw hideout occupied a deeper (or further) section of the woods, limiting the ground to search were they not able to obtain accurate directions.
He turned around to take a measure of his newfound comrades. The determined set of his piercing, silver eyes speaking volumes about his wish to pay the Tarrenclaws back for their arrogance.
Now may be the time to reconsider thinking this is connected to the corruption. "The blood hungers". That does not seem like something normal bandits would say.
Hearing Iradari speak of the corruption, which he had not heard anyone else speak of, but was himself looking into, Invaih turns to consider him. "If that is the case, I say we make haste. There is no telling that they will wait till sunrise as the note leads to believe, and the faster we act and find out, the better."
Iridari leads you to a half ruined mansion in the outskirts of Ambermoor in a grassy meadow surrounded by trees, at the front doors, two bandits stand outside along with an oversized boar, brown furred with dark streaks appearing burnt. The most unsettling part is that the boars eyes are glowing crimson, the tusks appear to be covered in fresh blood.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Artin attempts to hide behind Zaigreia (halflings can hide behind creatures 1 size larger). He whispers back -- the demon boar looks bad, that sounds like a good plan.
(OOC: Well, I'll be off now, hopefully see you all this evening!)

I know where their hideout is. I can lead us there. Iradari begins leaves the crowd, and waits for the others to follow.
Artin looks at the poster, grim faced. He recalls the tale of the murdered blacksmiths wife and vows not to let the same happen to the Kaos.
