"that was the plan yes, until the gargoyles starting raising a ruckus. they even went so far as to toss me about 50 feet in the air! Being foolish hero types we sought to drive them off, even captured one. We figured we could return the gargoyle and request the mage present himself here this morning. He stated he was under no ones authority and would do no such thing. We mentioned the giant's attempt to destroy the village and he responded with a statement along the lines of 'they weren't coming to destroy the village and if you had any foresight you would know this'. to me it seems he knew the giant attack was coming well before we arrived. With this new info Marav felt, and I agree, that he needed to be brought in. Conflict ensued, no fatalities and the gargoyles were destroyed. we returned here to rest and report to you on the incident and to see what you wanted us to do now, also we maybe could use a few more men. Now that we are rested he shouldn't be much of a problem to bring in"
"I received a letter from Kolstaag this morning, complaining about being attacked by upstart adventurers who said they were acting under my authority. He said he acted in self defense, and managed to subdue you and escape without anyone being killed.
"Did you attack him? Please tell me the exact series of events. Because if he threw the first punch...or spell...I would have the biggest legal leeway to bring him in."
"well technically we attacked first, but it was an illusion. He hit first, plus this started with the gargoyles accosting me earlier so he started it with his negligence. I find it funny he only respects your authority when it's convenient for him and not when you make a simple request for a meeting like we did before he acted as if you were beneath him"
"Everyone says I attacked. I didn't attack... I tried to subdue someone who refused to come in and was responsible for evil creatures attacking the town. I tried to pin him to the ground to keep him from bringing back in the gargoyles. "
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"we also informed him if he didn't come willingly we would use force. Send someone to bring him in to issue a report on the matter. we said we would use any non-fatal means, well this is just a rather roundabout way to do so"
"Lady Darathra, th' truth is we was'na goin' ta bring th' wizard in last night but 'is gargoyles was terrorizin' th' good folk o' Triboar in th' streets. We subdued th' gargoyles an' went ta confront th' wizard, hopin' ta' get 'im ta agree ta see ye today. 'e refused ta accept th' authority ye'd given us and would'na agree. We was set ta leave when tempers flared. But it's true, 'e 'isself made the first violent move. We acted within th' bounds o' yer charter. "
Ink stands by the side, along with Angel, keeping silent - observing.
When Marav speaks up in defense of his actions, Ink conjures up a quick mage hand and pinches him in the back of his arm, so that if he turns around to see Ink, Ink gives him the universal 'hush' sign. And through a hushed whisper of a message, states, "Let Rip handle this."
Darathra brings you in to her conference room on the second floor of the tower before continuing.
"It seems to me that we're in hazy legal territory here. You failed to produce any signet of authority before you made a move on the wizard—I never furnished one to you, since I didn't think you'd be attempting such a thing before today. If you had a signet, you could claim he was resisting arrest. As it is, it sounds as if he could claim attempted assault against you, regardless of what the gargoyles were doing. He could simply claim autonomy of the gargoyles and absolve himself of any responsibility—the matter was settled by default when you smashed them all."
Darathra paces while she speaks to you. "Now, I can't just rewrite laws for you. But what I can do is give you a good loophole. The law stipulates that individuals can settle their greivances with one another by entering into a duel. If each one of you were to enter a notice of greivance, and I approved them, then that would forestall any legal action the wizard could bring against you until such a time as the greivance was settled."
"So, basically - duel him or we go to jail or worst," Ink pauses for a moment in thought, "Well, I was hoping to live another few hundred years but a few hours would suffice just the same, I suppose."
Then in an almost annoyed super-fast-paced rambling, "You know we can say 'subdue' all we want, an attack is an attack. We should have just walked away like we were going to - and I never should have flown off... should have just let the menacing gargoyle go to do what it pleased, but no, I could fly and just had to see where they went off to, and then everyone was worried about me so they followed me there and then whack 'subduing.'"
"Should have just stayed on the ground."
"Two questions out of curiosity: are these duels to the death? And what would happen if he never shows up to the duel - like, as if he left town or something?"
Once Darthra appears Angel steps back and attempts to hide behind Marav.

Angel is going to whisper to Ink
”A duel. I don’t think anyone of us could take him on 1v1. We only managed to survive with all 5 of us.”

"The terms of a duel are stipulated on a separate sheet of parchment, and signed by both parties prior to the duel," replies Darathra.
