While walking towards the smith, Ink takes care to keep a look around him to see if he's being followed, tracked or generally being kept under observation... // Perception 18 //
Ink responds, "Well, I wouldn't necessarily call it 'scrap.' It is an iron necklace forged by a fire giant for a fire giantess. Given their prowess with an anvil and forge, I'm guessing its quality is better than that of the typical 'scrap' iron found. It even has her name imprinted on it in in their language." Ink does his best to show him the Dethek runes on the necklace.
On his way down, Ink noticed a few of the villagers giving him an odd look as he traipses towards the blacksmith with a string of iron ingots hanging off his shoulder.
"Ohhhh," says the smith, setting side the band he's working on and reaching for a magnifying glass from inside his apron. "Well aren't you something special! Fire giant, you say." A heavy note of sarcasm is apparent.
"Hrm..." he says, taking half a minute to look from rune to rune. He taps the ingots with his hammer, then sprinkles a little water from the nearby trough on them and sniffs them. His tone is now surprised: "Yup, high-quality iron right there. I'd believe it was from a fire giant forge. I was trained by a master smith back in my day, said he himself was passing on secret fire giant traditions, carried from generation to generation. Utter crap, if you ask me! Heh! But he did have a way with metal. And this is good stuff."
Ink is looking to get two thin sheets of lead, just slightly bigger than size of the ring but still able to fit in the cart. He will try to barter the lead for the iron.
After an offer of barter is made, the blacksmith's tone changes to something more friendly. "Oh! I see. Yes, I'd be happy to get my hands on this stuff. I have a bit of lead on hand, not enough for a straight trade, but maybe around 25 to 50 pounds...let me see..." he goes into the building.
Coming back after a while, he is struggling with a heavy bucket filled with metal of assorted shapes. He heaves it up onto the anvil for inspection. "This is just some stuff I've collected...all lead. Fishing sinkers, candlesticks, dragonchess pieces. I've been meaning to repair some of 'em, but just never got around to it. Anyway, I'd reckon that's close to 50 pounds there. I'd be happy to take half your iron for this here lead, and it's 2 gold pieces to melt it down into sheets. I can melt it on down for you first thing in the morning, maybe get you around 20 square feet total."

"That sounds quite agreeable. Would you like the rest of the iron as well as payment for your services? I'd understand if you'd rather have the gold pieces though. Either way works for me."
// Not a problem—let me know if there's anything you want Flint to be doing right now. We can be flexible with location and such. You've all been offered free room & board at the Calling Horns Inn, and have managed to procure about 50 pounds of lead which Ink is paying to have turned into 4-foot-square sheets //
Provided Ink finds his compatriots, he explains the deal. And to hide the disk from divination overnight until the lead is ready, he offers to sleep in the cart, within the ring with Leomund's Tiny Hut cast.
Anyone is free to join but must do so before Ink casts the spell.
//We should all be present when you cast the spell so that we can come and go, but before you do...//
Flint eyes the room we've been offered, is it feasible to bring the ring into the room? Does it have a window to the stables?
When we get the lead, Flint will work to bend it into a box to hold the ring and will find a way to strap it to the cart bed. //but that's the following day I think//
//As for the conversation with Tamalin, Flint would have have responded to the question about the war, "Aye lass, ah was.", and otherwise would have followed along as it went. Flint was hoping to find that she herself was a member of the Lord's Alliance, and maybe to see if we thought we could trust her enough to store the ring until we get back from Rip's quest. So that conversation went well, we can discuss the plan together after the hut is summoned.//
Angel, shocked that someone could not like dogs, has been spending his time, while Ink was at the blacksmith, eating and feeding the dogs followed by some general play time with them.
[As per your earlier Insight roll] Flint would have got the impression that Tamalin was at least friendly with the Lord's Alliance, though her actual allegiance (if any) is unclear.
// Let me know when you guys are ready to proceed—assuming you are sleeping in the inn. If you sleep in the stable, you'll have trouble recovering spent hit dice, jsyk. A bed is required to fully recover. //
"I appreciate the concern, Flint, but I'll be fine, I'm sure. No creature can enter the hut and I'll match the outer color to the surroundings. Besides, I only need 4 hours of sleep. I'll study the rest of the night - perhaps scribe a scroll."
//Of course before he does this, he places some ball bearings by the window and door, so if anyone attempted to come in they'd have to step on them.//
// Go ahead and narrate in character how you attempt this, so I know what stuff to roll or have you roll. //
The big bartender that was introduced as "Nhek" guides you all up some recently rebuilt wooden stairs into a long hallway that runs the length of inn. The windowed rooms face south and north, with the stairs being located on the same side of the building as the stables. A west-facing window on the landing overlooks the wood-shingled roof of the stables.
Nhek shows you two simple rooms, one with a single bed and a bunk bed, and one with two single beds. The rooms are rustic as the rest of the town is, with rough bedding made of burlap, wool, and goosedown for cushioning. The beds are clean and no-nonsense, but look like heaven compared to your sleeping arrangements as of late. At the foot of each bed is a wooden chest with tiered inserts meant for storing personals. The walls and floors are made of hewn timber, and are finished only to the point of not containing splinters.
To the side of each bed is an end table with a hooded lantern. A small shelf built into the wall next to the upper bunk is similarly adorned with a lantern.
"These should do you fellas," says Nhek. "Lanterns have fresh oil and bedding's clean. Are these rooms to your liking?"
On his way down, Ink noticed a few of the villagers giving him an odd look as he traipses towards the blacksmith with a string of iron ingots hanging off his shoulder.
