"I think we should go to the inn and secure some provisions. Someone there may know about the various homesteads that have fallen to the curse. We may be able to help put a few of the locals back into their homes, and build some good faith with the residents of these lands." Thpas wicks the trails of water streaming down his smooth, azure scalp and smiles. "And when have you known me to turn down an opportunity to make new friends?"
"I did not know of this children's tale. Thank you, Emre." Byllemura shudders under her cloak. "I would love to get some warm food and a pint of ale. I am starving. We can go to the Burgomaster's hall after a good meal, don't you think?"
After a minute of trudging through the now soggy ground, you find the tavern:
"A single shaft of light thrusts illumination through the main square, its brightness looking like a solid pillar in the heavy fog and rain. Above a gaping doorway, a sign hangs precariously askew, proclaiming this to be the Blood on the Vine tavern. A flash of lightning illuminates the sign, and you notice the "N" in the word "On" on the sign had been scratched over the original letter; an "F", making the tavern's real name "The Blood of the Vine".
Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.
The tavern is silent. Fog creeps in through cracks in the walls, which offer no protection from the cold outside. At one table, three gypsies sit, talking in whispers. At another table, a lone man sits sipping ale. The barkeep sits behind his counter, mindlessly cleaning already cleaned glasses.

Emre takes a gander around the room, surreptitiously looking for anything unusual about these individuals, besides the obvious mindless task that barkeep is performing.
Emre can only feel a sad, dreary atmosphere in the Tavern.
The three gypsies' whispers are indistinct from your distance. The man by himself at the table looks up at you and says, "Why hello there! You're newcomers, right? Have some wine! I'll pay for it."

"Quietest tavern I've ever been in... Can anyone play some music to brighten the mood some?" Valanthe hears the man's offer, "Oh really? You may have bitten off more than you can chew." Then she proceeds to the barman to order a round of wine (for the drinkers only).
Without looking up, the barkeep asks "Would you like Purple Grapemash (3sp) or Red Dragon Crush (1gp)?"

"I'd like a portion of the red dragon crush, please..." Thpas places three of his own gold pieces on the bar "and if you wouldn't mind, barman, I'd like to send a round to that table over there" he indicates the three gypsies.
Perception 31 to get an idea about the fashion and station of the gypsies.
He then turns to the generous man. "What's your name, friend?"
Byllemura drops a 1gp on the bar and tells the barman: "I would like a taste of your Purple Grapemash and the latest rumors in town. You can keep the change." with a wink.
The barkeep fills Byllemura's glass and, without a word, resumes his never-ending task of washing glasses.
The man says to Thpas, "My name is Ismark," then he adds with a smile, "though some people call me "Ismark the Lesser" because I've always lived in the shadow of my father, the burgomaster."

Ismark's expression turns to a frown, "What brings you to Barovia? No one comes here for amusement."

"Don't worry Byllemura, they are but trinkets. I may have just lost three gold, myself." He turns his attention back to Ismark. "We've been invited and are acting in good faith to help the people of this town, those who will accept it anyway. We're looking to make something of a name for ourselves, and, if I may, we may be able to help you to make a name for yourself if you like." Thpas smiles brilliantly and tastes the Red Dragon Crush.

...Aranna was lost in thought for... most of this adventure. When she hears about eating, she nods.
"Perhaps eating could get my mind off things..." She wasn't exactly scared, but it was certainly a lot to take in.
