Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Your power is born of a small cat-like creature whose powers are surprisingly well concealed through the careful construction of half-truths.  Magical scholars who are able to observe it have determined its powers to be necromantic in nature, and the nature of the trinkets given with its "contracts" is unsettling to say the least.

If multiclassing is allowed, and you decide to take a warlock of this patron after character creation, the formation of this contract can be a fun roleplay moment.  But make no mistake, this Madoka-Magica-inspired patron's powers are likely extremely unbalanced - allow this at your campaign's risk.

Expanded Spell List

The Incubator lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Incubator Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st False Life, Heroism
2nd Hold Person, Lesser Restoration
3rd Counterspell, Dispel Magic
4th Arcane Eye, Death Ward
5th Greater Restoration, Telepathic Bond

Desire Manifest

Your patron has gifted you with a single wish in return for your services, whatever end they serve. The little creature has interpreted it as you felt in the moment, but this wish informed your Warlock powers.

Starting at 1st level, you have learned to channel your magic through an object - a little gemstone referred to as a Soul Gem. You gain the object with this feature. The Soul Gem has 13 AC and 5 HP. While your Soul Gem is on your person, you gain the following benefits:

  • The object is a spellcasting focus for you.
  • While you are wearing no armor, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Charisma modifier.
  • You cannot fail your death saves.
  • The Soul Gem can be transformed into a ring, or back, as a bonus action. This can allow you to keep track of it more easily.

In addition, you obtain a weapon based on your wish. For example, if you wished for a better place to live, you might gain access to a ringblade. When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.

At 3rd level when you gain your Pact Boon, you must select Pact of the Blade. When you do, you only gain the ability to call and dismiss this weapon.

Your Soul Gem is irreplaceable, and if separated from it, you can feel your life force quickly fading from you. When further than 50 feet from your Soul Gem, you are poisoned until the Soul Gem is returned to your person. When further than 100 feet from your Soul Gem, you instantly die. In this situation, revival spells will not work on you. However, when returned to your person, the Soul Gem will return you to life with however many HP you had before being separated from it.

If your Soul Gem is destroyed by an attack, you are reduced to 0 HP and instantly die. In this situation, there is nothing that can bring you back to life - not even a Wish spell or the Cleric's Divine Intervention class feature.

Mental Communication

At 6th level, you can form a telepathic connection between your mind and that of any others contracted by the Incubator. You and any willing fellow Incubator Warlocks you can see can speak telepathically with each other while the group of you are within 100 feet of each other. To understand each other, you each must speak mentally in a language the other knows.

Uncanny Reactions

At 10th level, you have discovered the ability to react to danger that would otherwise evade you senses. When you fail a saving throw, you can use your reaction to reroll the save and add half your proficiency bonus to the roll. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Suppress Pain

At 14th level, you have mastered the art of pain suppression via your Soul Gem.  You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical weapons.
