Is there any way to make a homebrew spell to be part of the subclass spell list? Specifically I'm wondering if there's any way to add it so that the spell is always prepared and doesn't count toward your max # of prepared spells.
If you want to make a homebrew spell available to a particular subclass, you need to add that subclass to the homebrew spell.
If you want a subclass to have a particular spell always available, ala domain spells for clerics, you will need to create a homebrew subclass and add those spells in. You can find some usefull guides on how to create subclasses and spells in the homebrewing forums: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules
I just found out if you only select a subclass then it's treated as part of an extended spell list that's always prepared.

Only for “prepared casters” (Artificers, Clerics, Druids, and Paladins), for other classes they are just treated as normal spells.
I hope this is in the correct thread....

I was hoping I wouldn't have to create a subclass. Oh, well. Guess I'm just gonna have to mark it on my character sheet. Thanks
