Homebrew Cleric subclass gained access to a few spells normally just available for wizards (a few dunamacy spells), I created the spells as homebrew spells and took the originals als template, and just added the cleric subclass to the "AVAILABLE FOR CLASS(ES)" field.
The spells do indeed appear in the spell list of my character now, but they are always prepared. They should not be, they should just be there for the cleric to prepare if he chooses. Did I do something wrong or is the mistake not on my side?
Would be super glad for any help! Have a good one, may the rolls be with you
Because the spells are basically unchanged, accept for which classes can use them, I can not make the homebrew public to link it here (I believe).
(also, in the preview of the spell in my homebrew collection, the cleric subclass does not appear where it should, it still says just "wizard" in the "available for" space.)
Edit: I just saw that if I add "arcane trickster" to the list instead of my cleric subclass, the spell is just available in the spell list and not always prepared. Like I would like to have it for the cleric.
Did you add the "Cleric" class to that field or did you include a Cleric subclass?
If you add a subclass, such as a Cleric Domain, then the spell is added to the subclass as "always prepared" or "counts as known" spell for anyone taking that subclass in your campaign or for any character you make that does.
Only ever add the main Class. Doing so in the "available for" field will make it an available choice.

optimally I just want a feat or something that only that character gets to gain access to the spells, but I could not find out how to do that. I tried adding them with a homebrew feat but again, they would be always prepared...
Edit: Adding cleric, instead of the subclass to the spell adds it to the spell list without preparing it. So that works. It shows up for all clerics in all my campaigns. which will be problematic at some point
A better alternative is to make a copy of the background the player wants to take. In backgrounds there is a section at the bottom to add spells - these spells will be added to any spell lists a character has that uses this background, much like how the Ravnica Guild backgrounds work.

That makes 100 times more sense then anything i came up with. Especially because the charater has gotten the spells actually because of his background.
For the “prepared Casters“ (Artificer, Cleric, Druid and Paladin), their subclass specific Spells are automatically “always prepared.” (The other casters don’t behave like that.) If you had listed the base Cleric class it would have behaved as you expected. You could also do it as part of a subclass feature or racial trait, down at the bottom they have the same field as backgrounds.

I feel somewhat stupid now.
