I'm making a subclass with an inbuilt weapon. I want the weapon to not get an ability score modifier to its damage so when I was making a custom attack action for one of the level 3 features I selected none of the "ability score type". But when I went to a character sheet with the subclass it had a +4 (the characters highest stat, dexterity) to the weapon attack and damage.
Unfortunately, Idk the problem here, since you didn't pick a ability score, did you check the uses proficiency bonus? box? in the actions. or did you count it as a melee or ranged weapon? action?

Change the action type from “weapon” to “general” and it will remove the damage bonus.
