Hello all. I’m planning to run the tomb of Annihilation soon. We will be starting in person, but after I move we will go digital. As such I have a question. With the dnd beyond subscription I can share character sheets with people. Would they get the version on the website with dice rolling and a simplified character sheet? I also saw on the player app that there’s a way to share your dice rolls. I’m curious as to how that will work. Can anyone explain these two things to me so I can better make my decision?
“Sharing” a character sheet just means they can look at it, but not do anything. It’s like sharing a meme or something. No subscription required.
Every player will need their own DDB account and (no subscriptions required). Then you start a DDB campaign and send them the “invite link” to join your campaign (no sub required). They join your campaign and they each get their own characters for their own accounts, and as DM you can also interact with each of their characters as if they were yours (no subs required).
The only real reason for players to need a Hero Tier Subscription is to upgrade their number of character slots from 6 to ♾. Other benefits include qualifying for some cosmetic perks like new dice skins, and getting advanced access to new DDB features since we get to be testers for DDB before they open that stuff up for open testing. (And, probably the best reason to pick one up is to support a business that one likes and uses.)
However, if any one person in the entire campaign has a Master Tier Subscription, then that person could activate “content sharing” for a limited number of campaigns. What that does is share the materials people have purchased here for the whole campaign to use. Not all content is free on DDB, only the Basic Rules & SRD, and the EEPC. Everything else (including the full PHB) must be purchased from this website for anyone to have access that material.
So, for example, if there are 4 people in the campaign, and 3 of them have each purchased a different book, and one person has a master tier sub and enables content sharing for that campaign then all four people get to use all three books. It doesn’t matter who has what (DM or Players), everybody gets the benefit off that shared content.

Please note: Subscriptions do not unlock content.
I hope that helps.
