So one of my players was creating a Warlock in my Master campaign. They clicked the join link, and began creating a character, and I could see their work-in-progress on my campaign page under Unassigned Characters. If they skipped immediately to the Classes tab and selected Warlock, they could select any of the full-list of patrons. However, if they first started with other aspects of character creation (i.e. Ability Scores, Race), then it restricted their choice to just Fiend.
I made certain to share all of my purchased sourcebook material, and could access all of the options when creating a character myself, so this seemed rather odd to me.
On a hunch, I had them go back to the main campaign page and Claim their character. After doing so, they were finally able to see all the Patron options again.
So, is this the intended behavior? If so, as a DM I wouldn't consider it to be either the expected or desired behavior.
Those toggled don’t make any difference whatsoever, they only restrict the players ability to read the compendium content. The actual players options cannot be restricted in any way, they are all always automatically shared when sharing is enabled.
Are either of you running Beyond20, or any other blocker/extension/vpn that might cause interference? Anything like that could do it.
If not, then does simply refreshing the page help?
Either way, please include a copy of the URL for the character so a mod/staffer (not me) can look into it for you.
Thanks for the explanation of how the toggles work. As for VPNs, blockers, or extensions, I'll have to check with that player, but they aren't particularly technical so I rather doubt it. I did try having them Shift+F5, but they couldn't seem to figure out how to press F5 properly even when toggling the Fn key (like I said they are NOT technical).
The only VPN I run is to remote into the office for WFH, but I fully exit that whenever I'm done working. The only DnDB-related extensions I use are Mr Primate's DDB Importer, AboveVTT, and VTTA.io D&D Beyond Integration. That said, I wasn't the one having the problem, my player was.
At this point it's somewhat moot since we found a work-around (them claiming the unassigned character they made), but it was weird to see the appear options appear for a brand new character, then disappear once they started making race/ability selections.
Anyway, in case it helps, here's the character they were working on:
