I've mocked up a "Shillelagh of the Woodlands" homebrew weapon for a fellow player's Druid PC to represent weapon attacks made while he has shillelagh cast on his Staff of the Woodlands. I used Greatclub as a base to provide the correct damage die and then added these modifiers:
Ignore Weapon Property - 2-Handed
Bonus - Magic Item Attack with Wisdom (not ideal but he only has this one magic weapon)
Bonus - Magic (2)
Proficiency - Self
I originally used Proficiency - Greatclub so that he'd have proficiency, but today tried switching to Proficiency - Self to give proficiency only to the weapon itself.
Unfortunately it's not adding his proficiency modifier to his To-Hit for the weapon attack. The Greatclub proficiency already went away from his list of weapon proficiencies so I assume the update should have propagated by now, especially since it's been a few hours since the change. Is the Proficiency - Self modifier just broken?
Further note: I tried adding Proficiency - Self to another homebrew weapon as a test; same result, no proficiency if the PC lacks proficiency in the base weapon.
...If this is a known issue and already on the list of bugs that need fixed please say so? Just so I know the problem is acknowledged. (I know there are a lot of small bugs out there to work on, especially with Tasha's requiring a revamp of many subsystems.)
Oh, true, because it was for Elven Chain. Ah well.
At least I found another d8 weapon that he already had proficiency in to use as the base, just needed additional modifiers to make it bludgeoning damage etc.

It is a known issue, I believe that modifier only works for armor.

It also didn't work when i added it to a splint armor homebrew. I had to change it to proficiency: heavy armor.
