Hard to say if this is a bug or not really, but I have a "custom dragonborn" race that I created to group together all of the various dragonborn variants and allows players to mix and match the options they get, so they can have a thunder breathing dragonborn without gem dragon psionic features, e.g- to represent a battle dragon ancestry.
Anyway, I decided to create this as its own race under the Dragonborn racial group, rather than as a variant, because frankly sub-races and variants are a mess in homebrew.
However the problem is that my custom dragonborn doesn't have access to the dragonborn-specific feats Dragon Fear or Dragon Hide, because the "dragonborn" prerequisite isn't met, despite the race being in the dragonborn racial group.
I'm not sure whether it's really a bug as I don't know how exactly the racial restrictions of feats are implemented behind the scenes, but it seems obvious that they should go by racial group as anything in that group is supposed to be a dragonborn as far as the editor is concerned.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
It’s because you made it as a standalone race instead of a Variant/Subrace.
I know why it is, but the feats shouldn't be tied to a specific race when there are racial groups; and I don't create anything as variants or sub-races anymore because homebrew sub-races and variants are a complete dumpster fire, if you publish them they don't even appear in searches, and that's among the more minor issues. 😝

I still create things as subraces/variants, I just don’t publish anything anymore.
